Co-op in Halo Custom Edition.

Say, you press a button and the screen is split up, a clone of the first player's biped is spawned near the first player and the gamepad controls it.

Online it won't, but AI on Halo 1 syncs through a local network/one machine.

You mean "co-op", but with an AI-controlled ally? Do-able, I believe, but it would have to be set up while the map was being made. I don't think you could turn existing singleplayer maps into co-op ones.

That's not what I mean, say, someone sets up the Halo controls with their gamepad, then a Halo plugin is installed and reads the gamepad input settings, so when a button on the keyboard is pressed, an arrow should appear in front of the player and the gamepad can move it around, when at a desired position, they press "A" and they control a biped cloned from the first player, and the screen is split up.

I don't think it's possible to make split-screen but that would be nice.

Someone could exploit the Xbox version and get the split screen stuff.

Explain how it synced on Xbox.

IDK lol

But if you've ever tried to play a CE LAN game with AI, and you looked at other players' screens, as well as their in-game actions (I.E. Shooting at nothing, dying randomly) you would know that they don't sync at all.
I'm not saying this is a bad idea though, quite the contrary. But it really isn't feasible.

It wasn't a LAN game? Split-screen =/= LAN

I'm saying the local network he mentioned.
One machine, yes. Any kind of network, no.

A local network is different from a local area network.

I work with the Xbox version of Halo all the time... I don't think split-screen works the way you're thinking. I do know though, that if you edit the tags for the single player maps for the Xbox version... there are references for Co-Op spawns and separate data for each scenario that details the information for the Co-Op player. For example... the starting weapons for the Co-Op player and the Biped they will use, etc.

AI data absolutely won't sync over more than one machine.

I saw a video of a mod for the xbox version where people were using lan tunneling software to play co-op over LAN. I can't say for sure if it synced but the author of the video said it synced.

It's called Xlink, and the Xbox version uses different netcode than the PC/CE versions.

But it helps prove that you can do co-op over lan on the Xbox. That's why I mentioned it.

But can we actually get split-screen and two local players?

Maybe not splitscreen but more like 2 windows.
1 Halo window for each player or something.

Not sure it applies to Halo but in Counter Strike 2D, you could technically have 2 players play on the same server on one PC (by starting the game twice and having two running instances)

I want to hook up a controller and play splitscreen.

The code for Co-op is in CE, Bungie was too lazy to remove it. I think it would be possible with the right knowledge and enough time.

Bungie didn't make CE. or PC. You are stupid.

Gearbox made CE and PC.

Also I've seen people use Sandboxie to run two halo exe's on one computer. The main exe would run a server and the sandboxie one would connect by ip 'localhost'.

Stop all your arguing/fusing, I'm the only one whose allowed to be right[/sarcasm]

Do you all believe me when I tell you that it took longer to get the freaking recording sorted out than actually setting it up? Fraps freaking split it up, and video editors not exporting the merged correctly (just getting audio, etc)
