So lately I've been working on purdyfying my halo. And today i was working on the boost for the wraith. I added a new lens flare i made, using stock bitmaps of course, and from behind it looks great, See?

But when you turn at all, or look at it from a different angle.

What i really need to know is how to get the lens flares not to turn, and not to phase. So that when an object is in front of them, they don't just phase right through, and when you walk around it, it doesn't turn to face you constantly. I know it's probably not possible. And please don't suggest light volumes because i already tried them, and didn't like the results i got.

As always, thanks for anything and everything you guys can offer.

No, they're rectangles. Not stretched at all. I've tried it with others, and they still do the same thing :/ That's why i posted. Lol.

Aaww, but i like their size, and in order to move them far enough back they'd have to be between the front and back fins, lights coming from nowhere? I was hoping there was a way to make the game scale them with rotation so that they look more flat from the side and more wide from the front. I'm just not sure how to do it :(

I'd model in the planes for a blue boost, it's a lot easier and you have total control over what shape, speed and color it has.

Have you considered using light volumes?

They should give you the falloff you are looking for, while achieving a similar look.

Perhaps try setting the occlusion to use the marker forward. If that doesn't work, you can try occluding the marker's center point by embedding it halfway into the surface of the model.

I would imagine that would cause the Lens flare to cut off at less of a harsh angle, while still being visible head-on.

I've tried the marker forward option, didn't work. I'm afraid it doesn't. Moving the marker farther into the model just seems to move the lens flares farther out the other side :/ I'll keep toying with occlusion, and see what i can figure out.
