On my gaming laptop(contradiction!), chat does not appear at all during gameplay; the grey bar at the bottom appears, but chat is invisible. It shows up on my desktop PC, and both systems use Windows 7. any idea how to fix this?

there is a folder in your ce directory, inside should be something along the lines of msxdial.exe run that. I'm not at my computer right now, but I'm sure someone else here knows what I'm talking about and can get you the exact location.

Are you using vidmode? Or is your video card scaling the game at all?

not having msxmlenu installed is the number one cause of not being able to see the text.

It is not the same message twice. It is specific to using the vidmode command. And generally whether the video card's set to scale resolutions in it's control panel.

And it's the first thing that should be asked about for an issue like this. It's the most common cause of this issue.

But(checked reply while writing this) obviously you were right in your suggestion by chance.
So the issue's sorted now anyway. :)

not trying to start a fight but however you did post the same message twice (don't know if it was by accident) but you said "Are you using vidmode? Or is your video card scaling the game at all?" at 4:01pm and again at 4:09pm
