Old computer died got a new one with windows 8 (it is 'ew'). Saving stuff with Guerilla and Sapien. The files seem to not appear when I open it's file location. I can find them when I open it with Guerilla or Sapien. I tried using the search on the computer and found the files in appdata for some odd reason, then when i try to move or copy it the computer said "this file is no longer at this location". This applies to ripping tags with Hek+ as well. Rip tags then they disappear. (I was smart enough to keep a back up map to rip my stuff in case my computer died or bad like that. but I didn't expect this). I double checked all my destination folders and the folders I was looking through. oh and I have no idea how to google this problem. I tried showing hidden files. didn't work. Also I am admin of this PC.

I have zero experience with W8, but do you know if UAC is enabled? That will be messing with stuff, it saves things you change on protected folders to like a virtual folder. Crazy stuff.

The security model for windows since vista makes the Program Files directory essentially a read only protected space to prevent malware from corrupting your programs. The compatibility files model redirects older programs to write to the users appdata folders which are secured then by the individual users permissions. It is ill advised to the point of folly to disable the UAC since it is essential to securing your system. The act of disabling the UAC indicates that you do not understand its function or the ramifications of removing it.
If you absolutely have to write to the Program files directory then you will need to change the permissions on the folders where you need to write. You MUST login as the administrator and have full permissions to change them. Again ONLY change the folder you need; in this case C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft Games\Halo Custom Edition and give full control to that folder to the User context.

Thank you Dennis. Permissions fixed it. Before a assumed that since I am an admin to this computer, I would have full permissions to everything. But apparently not...

Quote: --- Original message by: vampire_girl I have no idea how to find the goddammed error dump in Win8 (if it even has one) It doesn't. Thats one of the big features!.... Anyways, that's why korn isn't supporting W8 with OpenSauce (Although he made OS create its own dump files now) Only dumps made are sent to microsoft and not stored (You should of read the modacity thread where they talked about all the "New" things in W8 (the removed feature list)) Windows 8 is all about removing features from the user. The like 4 new optimizations they've made to the OS isn't worth everything that they've removed. Go check your autorun in the control panel.. They don't even think people want such basic abilities such as to watch DVDs anymore.

Kirby, most of the features people think you can no longer access are easily accessible if you look in the right places in the control panel. Granted, some things are hidden so well you could only find them by mere luck. But they are there.
Anyway, regular Halo works fine for me on Windows 8. I'll try CE and OS soon.

Yes, you can use Aero with Windows 8. It works fine. It's not as over the top as Windows 7 though. It actually looks clean rather than a distorted mess.
There are community-made themes that let you bring back the distorted mess that is Windows 7's aero style though.
But I personally prefer Windows 8's theme. It's awesome. (Although it looks horrible without Aero. Without Aero, it's just blocks of colour)

But apparently not... Absolutely no one using the computer on a daily basis for normal operation has the need for full administrator permissions which is why even as the only user you do not have them. Full administrator permissions should only be used for changes to the operating system such as loading programs and drivers and such.
