I want to move to 3ds max now seeing as how slow it takes to export files to jms through the listener in gmax, but I can't find a way to import my models to 3ds max. How do I convert gmax files to 3ds max files (that does not involve exporting to obj and then copy and pasting a million times from the listener)?

Just export from gmax to obj, fbx, 3ds or any other format that Max recognizes, then import it.

I can't. Gmax only exports to .p3d format and saves in .gmax format, 3dsmax doesn't read any of those formats for some reason. There is a maxscript I found that can export to .obj but it didn't come with a grablistener like with chimp. My map is extremely large so it would take ages to copy and paste the code into a text document and saving as obj (not to mention that gmax restricts the amount of code you can highlight in the listener window at one time....)

I haven't used Gmax in a few years but the way I did it way back when was use chimp to export and then compile with tool. Then use a .gbx model importer to open up the mesh in 3ds.

hmm I will try that method later, hopefully it doesn't screw anything up. Maybe there could be another way to trick chimp's grablistener into exporting the obj file as well (hopefully if the 1st method screws up the model then I can try the second method anyway)

I haven't had the time to test all the solutions yet, but @ally I've seen the first two links already. I got an error while trying to export from gmax but i might try again later along with the 3rd link method
