well.. idk if everybody here knows about this, but i didnt seen any tutorial so... why not one?

i was bored of the original startup image.. so this is a way to change that loading screen..

we need Restorator 2007 to change the image.. here is the link for the trial version..
http://www.mediafire.com/?gc5r49na3lk9625

so.. we need to drag the "Strings.dll" file to the window of this program.. just like this..

then, we open the "Bitmap" folder..

then, we can see the classic startup image there..

now, we need to create a new image for replace the old one.. the image resolution need to be 640x480.. a diferent one will crash the game..
then, we drag the image to the "134" file.. or to the "Bitmap" folder

we can see the new image there..
now we save the file..

this will appear when you save the file, just clic OK.

open the game, and you will have the new startup image changed.

Wow, didn't realise this was even possible.

Great tutorial. I need to ask my dad about it because I'm pretty sure he's already installed a string editor that's more advanced than Restorator, but still, great tutorial. :)

E: Nevermind, forgot. Whether my dad installed an app or not, PeaZip can supposedly open .dll files. :D

Anyway, trying now, and great tutorial. ;)

I've been using resource hacker, works fine. Good tutorial, although there are many other applications that one can use to accomplish the same task.

Ah, but why use other applications when you can use PeaZip, the universal archiver, unzipper, hex editor, .dll viewer, Pea frier and teleporter?

Okay, fine I exaggerated. I admit it.

It can't fry peas. It can do everything else though :)

E: -.- it seems either it can't view .dlls either or there's some weird complex method to get to the dll viewer that I don't know about. :(

Got Restorator because PeaZip's clearly hiding it's superiority atm(Nah, I overestimated it :P), but when I drag my new bitmap file to 134, it just says 'bitmap is corrupt' and won't show the image in the resource viewer.

Oh right, okay. I'll try that then :)

I think it's in .jpeg atm. Such slight advancement and yet it makes such a difference -.-

E: Works now. Had to re-export it as a .jpg rather than .jpeg.

If it only supports jpg, then I suggest you to not use Restorator.

Doesn't work for me, though it might just be because I'm using GIMP to convert, which is originally coded for Ubuntu and probably uses codec's native to Linux.

E: Jpg works though, and it turns out you're wrong about 640x480 being the only res that works. I used a 1680x1050 image and it worked fine. Didn't crash the game at all.

Well, yeah, it looks pixelated but that can probably be solved through some other app that might possibly allow you to make worthwhile changes to files.

The only reason it's pixelated is because it's locked in 24 bit color. That can likely be solved through a more advanced app than Restorator, though I haven't yet found any app that can complete such a task.
