Same as JimDaRulah. Every Halo game released so far(Except ODST and Wars for me) could have released only the campaign, and still be worth the money you bought it with.

They already said they won't be a major part of the story anyway. Also, that's an alpha/beta model you're looking at, it's subject to change.

You guys aren't even listening to me. The game is still in development and won't even be released for at least 9 more months (Almost a year) EVERYTHING is still subject to change in the game. What the people at GameInformer were shown is a VERY early version of the product. The final product may differ greatly.

That's generally PR bullcrap. Games almost never make radical changes in terms of visual artstyle once it's been shown off.

Even so, its a change in art style, it happens, some people like it, some people don't, but it really in the end has very little bearing on the quality of the game.

Hate to break it, but the truth is for some people, looks do matter...even in games!!
It is of negative influence on the game experience if I have to look at, imo, ugly characters and again imo, generic sci-fi style.

I didnt say it doesn't matter, but in this case is it is an argument of aesthetic choice, some people like them, some people don't, its not a question of quality. In the end it won't have anything to do with the quality of the gameplay.

If you want to take it that way go ahead, either way in the end it makes very little difference.

I still look forward to halo 4 but it really gets me that 343 decided to nerf jen taylor, the original cortana voice, i just can't imagine why they would do that, its the classic voice... And the whole getting rid of firefight thing.... The hell? I thought that they would maybe amp up firefight and make it more interactive, maybe kind of like a forge style where you could set up where they spawn or something? i dunno, just thought there could of been a lot of potential there... I hope they at least give Mr. Elite some armor for his grandma turkey flab arms... and give them voices like they had in halo 3. Also i hope you get to fight alongside elite warriors again, even if there are some that you still have to fight. Like in glasslands, where there were elites that were hoping for peace with humans, and others that still held hatred for humans. Also i hope 343 doesn't forget that the Arbiter still has a pretty large role, i think it would be cool to see more of the arbiter's story this time around kind of like in halo 2. Guess what I'm saying is i hope 343 continues the story smoothly and keeps on track with where it left off in halo 3.

Final Elite?

The problem with this argument is that Halo 1 was made 10 years ago, and Bungie at the time was going through radical changes. They still had the basics of what they wanted down, and that elite didnt stray to far honestly. Nowadays, publishers have alot more control over the influence of games that have been set in stone and with developers who are also rock solid. 343 is one of these companies, they are also not making a new IP. Unless ALOT of people start complaing, their visual artstyle will not change.

Like Lodex said before, most of the "wip" bs is just PR nonsense to help calm people and reassure that the end product will be great. By this point, with even 9 whole months left, alot of stuff is pretty much solid/decided on the visuals, direction of how gameplay will be taken, and story.

Oh don't misunderstand me, graphics do matter. However what I probably meant when I said something like that to you is that a game with only good graphics but bad gameplay is still a crappy game essentially. Ideally you need both to be good/great :)

Well its not like people actually play the game before they get it, unless theres a demo or they played with someone that did. Basically, the visuals and hype generally sell big block buster games like that, which is pretty sad imo.

And like Lodeman said, you need both for a good experience. Gameplay often comes first though imo! But visuals are still very important.

Yeah, gameplay always comes first.

I still play really old games like the first Prince of Persia, Medieval Total War, Neverwinter Nights 1, Red Faction, and... Halo.
Just 'cause they've all got really really good gameplay. Gameplay that's been forgotten in the modern game industry.

Part of the reason I'm worried about Halo 4 as well. Looks like they're upping the visuals just to sell. And the new multiplayer features don't sound like they're being added to improve anything either. The new gameplay features they're announcing are just added to be... features they can announce imo.

It's just like saying you're adding a new gametype to a game. It could just be almost exactly the same as old gametypes, with few changes, but it's just a feature they can announce basically. -.-

P.S.You guys should try Red Faction 1 btw. It's amazing

PS: I still find Halo 1 has nice graphics even today. Might not be as detailed, but the art style is lovely, and so is the color palette. Very pleasing to the eye. One could say I prefer these graphics over those of say Halo Reach or Halo 4, believe it or not.

Yeah, Halo 1 has amazing graphics for it's time.

Much nicer than some modern games.

One thing I hate about modern games is that they may have crazy shader effects and all that but they've ruined one thing...

EVERYTHING'S TOO BRIGHT.

Loads of new games use WAY TOO MUCH bloom. It doesn't look nice! It looks like somebody's shining a flashlight all over the place constantly. Whoever came up with the idea that that much bloom looks nice is an idiot.

Alright, this one actually pisses me off. Martin O'Donnell's soundtrack has always been a staple of the Halo franchise. His music is iconic of the entire series. WHY WOULD THEY USE SOMEONE ELSE???

Well, I hope 343 allows modding.
They should develop a terrain editor for Forge. As in, one of those painting terrain editors.

Good enough Editing Kit for me. :)

They tried too hard to make the Halo4 music cinematic. It lacks the tempo and beat that got my adrenaline going in the earlier games. The theme is pathetic. But hey, we'll see when it comes out, eh old chaps?
