Anyone notice lately that the available custom edition servers are not only dwindling in number but also utilizing pretty much the same maps? All I ever see is Yoyorast, Extinction, and that weird RPG map. I was banned from the one Coldsnap server I found because I was fighting the teamkillers. Anyway, why is it that people don't try new maps anymore? I see tons of promising maps on here that never get any attention from server hosters. I would run a server for new maps myself but I already have money tied up in a dedicated minecraft server. Why are people obsessed with more of the same? Don't get me wrong, Yoyorast and Extinction are classics and some of my favorite maps, but I would like to see some new stuff too. Anyone else have any feelings about this?

There are tons of servers running new maps. Unfortunately, the general population of the Halo community is pretty boring and most can never be bothered to try out new maps. What I suggest though is: Get a group of people together and play one of the many servers running new maps. Spread the word and people will come! It only takes 1 or 2 people to get a server going. More people will slowly trickle in and then a server will be full again.

If only halo servers worked more like Gmod, in the way that maps would be automatically downloaded from the server if you didn't have them.

Agreed.
Well, if sparky ever gets a license for Halo's source code, we might finally get a decent autodownloader.
It's quite improbable that he'll get the license though, unless he can make some profit from the purchase, which is improbable.
So, you're better off just asking people to get maps yourself.

I run the HaloCE server over at Catalyst-Gaming and I will say that I will host any map anyone wants, as long as people play it. Right now it just sits on Beavercreek all alone. The players over the past 24 hours looks like this: (red being when the server is empty) I would love to play more custom maps but it just seems that when you join a server on a new map you will be sitting alone for a while before quitting.

Sometimes I just get a cup of tea and sit by my computer reading a book for about an hour while I wait for somebody to finally join a server. That's how insanely desperate I sometimes am to play new maps. xD Edited by Jaz on Mar 28, 2012 at 11:54 AM

I have a 10 player GS server that I am willing to configure to however anyone wants it for gamenights or anything. I'll upload any map they request even. Hell, I'll even set temp rcons so people can manage it however they want. I made this offer a few times before and no one was interested. I guess offering anytime use to an actual server and not a home created server just doesn't appeal to anyone. *sarcasm* Well that's their own loss I guess. :/
