I always have a tiny bit of hope that someone will make a new extinction and maybe get rid of some of the bugs and add more things to it, considering it was made so long ago and the stuff the community has now. I know there's the whole "Extinction on Steroids" thing going on, but he doesn't really work on it anymore. In addition, it wouldn't be extinction. I don't know, I just figured someone should do or try.

no, there's too many things going on at once in the map, that's the issue. It's even worse in Downfall.

Extinction was simply too big. No it wasn't. In fact, with OS, it should be even bigger. The only problem with it was that it didn't have enough IN IT. There was just an empty canyon between each base. Quote: --- Original message by: Delicon20 protip 1: fix the spawns

never saw so many "0.0"'s in one ingame chat log before If possible, there need to be script zones specifically designed to prevent nukes within bases. I'm not sure if it's possible to specifically block longsword bombs though. Nukes should then be limited. Each longsword should only carry about 4 or 5 bombs until respawn. And there should be a 40 second delay between each shot. I don't know, I just figured someone should do or try. I agree. Extinction's a brilliant map in it's general shape and design, but it needs a lot more added to it. If it was rebuilt with OpenSauce, it'd be amazing if somebody upgraded both visuals and the general shape and design of the map. Visuals more importantly as they would make the greatest impact on the downloads.

I wasn't trying to insinuate that I'm remaking anything, I was just pointing out that there are opportunities to make extinction so much better. And yes, something along what Jaz said, there is so much empty room in between the main zones. That's why I've been looking forward to that "Extinction on Steroids" map because he's claiming to have fixed that issue. Adding some fire to the ships to make it clear that there was a crash and a war. You know, it'd be great if there was blood all over the area too. Or at least signs of war. BALANCE would be great too, I can never be on the covenant side without being obliterated. Like Jaz said, it's an amazing map but there are so many possibilities these days to enhance it.

Yeah, for the covenant, if anybody does bother remaking Extinction, I suggest the following:
1. A total restructure of the carrier. It's supposed to have been in a war! It needs to look far more run down. There should also be immersive sniper and jet hiding spots such as punctures within the ship. This could apply to the PoA as well.
2. More advanced vehicles. The vehicles are too weak. This shouldn't be fixed by merely increasing the firing power though. Each vehicle requires unique firing systems such as Auto-Targeting Plasma cannons on the Seraph. The firing systems should also be different to the human firing systems such as having a few weapons actually be living and function on their own with their own AI systems. I assume vehicle 'AI' would easily work as just simple scripts.
3. More weapons. I seriously do not understand why the creator(Ender I think?) decided to only give the covenant 1 weapon... a HUMAN weapon. Then there were just 2 other weapons available which weren't even available on spawn! If possible with OS, I suggest spawn-specific weapon kits as well as additional covenant weapons, bringing back the plasma rifle and other close-quarters weapons.
4. More defence. While the humans have a really narrow hangar which is almost inescapable if caught by an enemy, the covenant merely have a large barren canyon area. I suggest moving the flag to the Carrier ship and having turrets placed on the ship as well. Then, there should only be ONE access point for VEHICLES. This access point should be available exactly where it's expected... the gravity lift. If it's possible with OS, which it probably is, then a working gravity lift would be amazing! And it would make the covenant a force worth fighting for.
Others probably have more suggestions, but that's all I have for now.

Quote: --- Original message by: Private Caboose Quite honestly, this project would take some of us about a week in total to finish up. It wouldn't really be that hard. Just model the bridge, the turret stands, the pillar, the ground near the POA (horrid stuff there) and redo model the POA. And what about extra content? Plus boosting both gameplay and visuals. No point in just remaking Extinction as a duplicate. You may as well just play the original if you do that...

My dream remake within realistic proportions:
Visuals: If a REMAKE is ever going to get enough downloads to even bother making, it needs a massive boost in visuals. This can be achieved with Open Sauce. And no, I don't just mean Halo 3 weapons, I mean Halo 1 weapons VISUALLY BOOSTED. Which is pretty much what the Halo 3 weapons are in the first place incase you didn't notice...
Gameplay:
Not just vehicle changes. There needs to be more variety in weapon supplies, with a greatly expanded covenant armory especially. The longsword shouldn't just be less overpowered. It should have a time delay on the secondary fire(nuke) as well as a general limit on the number of nukes available within each spawn.
The mythos and scarab shouldn't just be replaced either. They should still be in the game but both visually boosted, and fixed. If it's possible to fix the collision, a working scarab would be brilliant and would provide a massive boost to the covenant morale.
And more bridges sounds like a strange idea to me. Why add more bridges when the bridge that's there is perfectly accessible already? More bridges would just overpower warthogs and ghosts. What is needed for the bridge though is a rebuild. The collison's totally glitched out atm.
Oh, and why would you need to make the map smaller to fix collision? Making the map smaller would just destroy the entire point of the design. Edited by Jaz on Mar 21, 2012 at 05:26 PM

^ lolno, it wouldn't be a simple remake, more like revamping it, visuals and functionality. Form follows function, you can't have something beautiful that doesn't work, in contrast, you can't have something great, but not visually appealing. I agree with not many people using OS, but besides that, the only valid point you make it the bridge point. Some extra bridges would be nice for us ground travelers.

No, you said you didn't want it to look better, and anyway, making it smaller makes a new map. We want a new extinction, as in fixing all the bugs and prettying it up. And pretty much what Jaz said, add in some weapons and balance out the sides. New areas within the map would be nice, but making it smaller would ruin it in a sense. Because the map really isn't THAT big when you think of it.

A few suggestions that came to mind, with little in regards to the level itself, but some information to consider when selecting weapons and vehicles:
•The Mythos (Or equivalent uber unit) should be modified to serve in a heavy anti-aircraft role (perhaps with anti-fighter homing missiles?), while the Scarab should be confined primarily to ground attack. •Turret emplacements. Not just little machine guns, but artillery and flak. Something for bombarding an area over long distances, and something for harassing enemy fighters. •Every weapon should have a specific purpose, and multiple weapons should not share a particular purpose. If you have two sniper rifles, make one of them an anti-armor rifle with low ammo and one an anti-infantry rifle with a higher capacity. Extinction had four or five different rifles with no discernible difference aside from the rounds per magazine. Everything should have an advantage and a disadvantage. •Longsword should have more armor, but the nuke should be replaced with a volley of carpet bombs. •The Pelican's chaingun needs adjusting. It's far too precise. •All vehicles should be modified to suit the size of the map. If it's a big map, make them faster, and give them weapons that can be used at range.

Here's the thing though: Unless they're using an aimbot, (In which case, if that's been confirmed via sightjacker, you should abuse them whenever possible) most people aren't really good enough to shoot down aircraft with a single shot. You might get that with a seraph or a jet or something, but with anything else it's going to take at least a few shots, giving you time for evasive maneuvers. If someone is sitting stationary somewhere and sniping, then yeah, attack them, but if someone's minding their own business walking somewhere (Or, you know, spawning) then killing them is really just a cheap shot. If they're on the ground and they don't even know you're there, then I say killing them is basically the same as spawn killing.

A jet or seraph can be downed in a single shot, a Longsword with two, a Pelican, while exceedingly difficult to deal with in most scenarios, can be dispatched by a lucky shot through the canopy or through the troop bay and into the cockpit. While most people may not be that good, enough of them are for it to be considered a nuisance. I suppose killing players on the ground could be considered cheap, but when they spawn with rifles capable of swatting planes from the sky, I'd much rather deal with them before they have time to notice me.
