For all those people out there whom use Megaupload.com or www.megaupload.com here is some impotent news for you. If you were having problems accessing or loading the website this is why. Just yesterday the US government shut down the large file sharing website for violating piracy laws. There is no assurance that the website will ever be back up or will ever be available to the public again. Here is what Time Techland has to say.

"One of the world’s largest file-sharing sites was shut down Thursday, and its founder and several company executives were charged with violating piracy laws, federal prosecutors said.

An indictment accuses Megaupload.com of costing copyright holders more than $500 million in lost revenue from pirated films and other content. The indictment was unsealed one day after websites including Wikipedia and Craigslist shut down in protest of two congressional proposals intended to thwart online piracy.

The Justice Department said in a statement said that Kim Dotcom, formerly known as Kim Schmitz, and three others were arrested Thursday in New Zealand at the request of U.S. officials. Two other defendants are at large.

Megaupload was unique not only because of its massive size and the volume of downloaded content, but also because it had high-profile support from celebrities, musicians and other content producers who are most often the victims of copyright infringement and piracy. Before the website was taken down, it contained endorsements from Kim Kardashian, Alicia Keys and Kanye West, among others.

Though as said before, there is no assurance that the website will be brought back up or restored. And since this is the case i am not sure if it will matter if we cross our fingers or not. But ether way we will just have to see what will happen from here.

For for information about the website shut down please visit these links.

Also since i did not know where to put this topic anywhere else, i thought it would be appropriate to put it here.
