Hi guys, I was wondering if you could recommend a program that can record Halo CE and other PC FPS gameplay in HD. Thanks,

Fraps because it's easy to use and is quite versatile. Camtasia's ending video result is higher quality though. [Off Topic] I can't seem to get it to record audio though :/

i got a 6 Core AMD and i found that using camtasia overheats them when recording or rendering a huge file and shuts off my pc, this is the only program i seen that does that to my system, i don't think they fully support 6 core.
But i love fraps cause setting it up just right and having an external hard drive with a lot of space will give 0 lag ingame for any game

Okay so I got Fraps. THe quality is excellent. However, I have a few problems. Frpas does not record the sound from the game, and the file sizes are huge. Help?

Frpas does not record the sound from the game, and the file sizes are huge. Help? If you're using Realtek drivers and Windows 7. Right click on the speaker notification area icon and click on recording devices, then right click and select show disabled devices. Right click on stereo mix and click enable. For the huge file size made by FRAPS. You will need video editing software to compress them. Edited by Derpfish23 on Jan 5, 2012 at 10:21 AM

I would suggest bandicam. It lets you not just record directx based games and programs but also capture screen.

Nvidia
As with bandicam, it also works very well, and records sound. The video file that I recorded lags a lot though. Any thoughts? Edited by Lethal Threat on Jan 5, 2012 at 03:40 PM

Not too sure if you still have Fraps on your comp, but if you do:
1. To record sound from any game, you can open Fraps, go to Movies and ensure the "Record Windows sound" option is checked. 2. If you want very high quality recording, huge file sizes are inevitable. You can, however, reduce file size by reducing the capture frame rate and frame size under Video Capture Settings. Take note, however, that doing so could make your recording choppier and less smooth, so choose a suitable compromise setting.
If the video file lags, you might want to consider a lower framerate and quality of capture, as screen recording puts quite a bit of stress on the video card and processor of your computer. If your computer cannot handle both gameplay and recording at the same time, both of them will lag and affect the video file.
My advice applies to Fraps and since I am not sure with Bandicam, you might want to ask someone who has it to help you.

If you have a beast computer you can use xfire. I used xfire up until CE3 2012 when I switched to FRAPS.

I think it supports up to 8 threads. Check the website for more info.
However, you can still experience some fps loss with dxtory even with maximum core usage, since it all depends on your harddrive(s) and how fast the video gets written to your disk. Just that, having support for more cores and dual gpu even, can lessen the amount of fps loss. Edited by XlzQwerty1 on Sep 26, 2012 at 11:10 PM
