Well, just got done playing CEA. It was alright, happy to be playing Halo again, but was disspointed in a few things.
(Obviously who cares about spoilers durp?"
Firstly, I noted that Captain Keys looks much younger and and his uniform never changes anywhere in the game unlike the orginal. Was somewhat dissapointed. :I
I noted also, in the escape pod scene you see Halo Reach Trooper, Halo Reach Trooper, Halo Reach Trooper WHAM Halo 3 marine pilot lady. Kinda stood out xD
Johnson looks pretty good, allot of Halo Reach stuff used over, which I guess only makes sense as the autumn had just come from reach, but they really could have redone the original armor and such.
Also, try to watch the scene where keys gets infected- The new graphics made this far more pants wettingly scary.
Overall, it's a decent buy- Hell, it's a great buy. I love Halo CE, but unfortunately they cut out theater, I dont know if it has splitscreen (Still have to look.) and the lack of a PC version (as far as I know) just plain sucks.

I've been finding it to be increasingly annoying that no cutscenes in the new game have been uploaded to youtube yet.

There are small inconsistencies here and there, little lack of detail issues with some character models, and some glitchy animations, but overall, it is a very satisfying buy, makes me excited to play through this campaign again for the 30th time :D

I say the use of models from Halo reach and Halo 3 is very inconsistent, why didn't 343 work on this more...

No because they did very little of the work on this game, Sabre interactive and certain affinity did the work, and for a remake that uses all of the original games physics, animations, and general gameplay, this is extremely good.

It's not of 343's decision, haven't you understood yet. MICROSOFT now OWNS The Halo franchise and it is up to microsoft's choice whether Halo should be exclusive to xbox or not. This means that 343 never had a choice to make it only xbox exclusive.

I mean come on it's just updated graphics, thats the only difference, everything else was reused.nothing was gonna be any different except that it has multiplayer support now.

Ok..I can point out some MAJOR problems with the game so far. Just completed the first mission (Pillar of Autumn) and i am rather disappointed.
#1: In Halo CE (For PC) Captain Keyes and Cortana are having conversation about the number Covenant cruisers are inbound towards the Pillar of Autumn and in this scene Captain Keyes has a pipe in his hand when Cortana is giving the number of Covenant cruisers. But in Halo CEA (For Xbox 360) his it not holding a pipe at all in the first cut scene. This upset me a good amount. Reason you ask? Because by protocol of the UNSC all personnel are not permitted to smoke in or on a UNSC ship. But captain Keyes it well known (from the books mostly) for smoking a pipe when his is pondering thoughts and chews on the bit when he is nerves. Captains Keyes does not have his pipe until the cut scene that him and Master Chief has their first conversation of the game.
#2: Compared to Halo Reach and all the other Halo games a lot of the bitmaps and textures make the game feel....comical. Halo CEA has more of a cartoon feel then a actual video game. I mean even Halo CE (the original) had a First Person Shooter action based feel to it and this one just seems...odd.
#3: Like many people above have started Halo CEA uses a lot of the same models from Halo 3 and Halo Reach......just altered. And in addition to that the Captains Keyes model does not look like the one in Halo Reach. Again it has a cartoon look to it.
There will probably more things that will popup that i can comment about but for now i will just try to enjoy the game.

When i say MAJOR i mean comparing this two games. Halo CE (the original) may have had lower poly models and not as detailed graphics but it had just the right feel to it to make it fun, enjoyable and the feel of a real FPS. Halo CEA just seems to lack the same feeling as well as the fun and enjoyable moments. I am not trying to dis 343 Studies but i feel like this new Halo has somewhat put to shame the original Halo. Ether way i am rather disappointed with 343 Studios and mean from what i heard, the soundtrack for Halo CEA was not even done by Marty O'Donnell himself. The soundtrack its just modified by 343 Studios.

Uggh, once again, 343 did not redo the sound track either, it was remastered by skywalker sound who transcribed the music from the original midi files and then performed it with a full orchestra.

Here's my list of grievances:
Poor animations. Lip movement is bad, and kind of makes the characters' lips stick out a bit like...apes or something. There gestures are over-articulated and, as others have said, look kind of cartoony. The AR looks a little vertically shrunken. I don't see why they couldn't just res-up the stock AR bitmap, add a few detail poles here and there, etc. Also, when camo'd, the AR appears to have a 'second skin', as if the camp bump/cube maps are off center, perhaps because they were going with a different first person model with the AR and forgot to update the location of the camo information (I have no idea how that works, so I just guessed). The pistol kicks butt. I have no qualms with it other than the melee sound. Too over-mechanicy. Actually, the majority of the melee, reloading, and pickup/readying sounds seem over-mechanicy instead of deadly as they have in previous games. What the heck happened to the sniper? The reticle is gargantuan and pixelated, as if they forgot to scale it down. The sniper itself looks horizontally squished. However, the firing, reloading, etc. sounds are quite awesome. I HATE the Reach banshee model. I would have much rather seen an up-res'd Halo 2 model (the Halo 3 was too curvy, but the Halo 2 model was basically an up-res'd CE banshee). The rate of fire seems much slower, as well, but the fuel rod is as awesome as ever. Its explosion sound appears to have a faint Reach MAC round impact noise in the background. The Wraith and Scorpion models are pillaged from Reach, but the Scorpion has a removed turret (which looks disgusting and cheap) and the Wraith still has its turret, but no one uses it. The models should have been updated to reflect the absence of secondary turrets. Additionally, the Scorpion model comes from Reach, so why didn't they include the reloading animations? Now it feels empty. Like the banshee, the Ghost seems slower and has a slower rate of fire. The Warthog seems slower in terms of acceleration and handling. I've noticed I don't drift nearly as far as I used to. But it does look quite sexy. Captain Keyes thought it was a good idea to go to the swamp in his dress uniform I see...not very intelligent of a captain of his status. Pelicans...the Reach model is over simplified and pastel-y. I despised it in Reach, and despise it in CEA. The Halo 3 model was by far the best and should've been used here (hell, it should never have been altered the way it was in Reach). Why are all the Flood Elite Combat Forms white? Why aren't they blue? Or maroon? There aren't even any white elites in the entire game. The cliffs of b40 and d40 are rather crude and blocky. Plus the additions are obvious; the rocks sit uncomfortably throughout the cliffs and don't blend in very well. It is unfortunate that the collision is that of the original game in these cases, because sometimes you can fly right through rocks, and in other cases you can fly right into 'invisible' geometry. I understand 343i's decision to leave the original collision untouched, but this is a bit ridiculous. The doors of b40 and d40 have nasty bitmaps that don't update very well (LOD issues). I personally loved the old design of those doors.
Now for some positive feedback:
The new graphics can only be described as pure sexiness. The use of both new and old bitmaps (metal panels narrow anyone?) is amazing. The bump mapping is superb! The lighting is spectacular! While I don't always agree with the colors, I love how light is reflected off of structures and objects, how shadows update in real-time and from a much greater distance than before. This is especially evident in the Library; the Monitor can almost drown out a light by flying in front of it, and the lighting and shadowing updates accordingly. Very sexy. Oh, dear, sweet Magnum, how I have missed you. The Can-opener of Imminent Doom is back in all its glory with an awesome firing sound. The rockets are (you guessed it) sexy. Their contrails have lights that also cast real-time shadows, and their explosions are powerful and awe-inspiring. Terminals and skulls add an awesome hunt to the game. I haven't played the 6 new maps or Installation 04 yet, but they look incredible.

Poor animations. Lip movement is bad, and kind of makes the characters' lips stick out a bit like...apes or something. There gestures are over-articulated and, as others have said, look kind of cartoony.
The problem with the lip syncing on the animations comes because they had to use the existing audio recordings from the original game, where as with a game like reach they could alter the script and the timing to fit the animations, here they had to fit the animations to the already recorded script, thus making it infinitely more difficult to get perfectly synced lip movements.
The issue with the camo is a bit strange, it seems that when in camo with the new graphics enabled, the vertices and edges on the usually unseen portions of the model is now visible, i.e. when camouflaged with the rocket launcher, the round edges of the ends of the tubes are visible through the tubes themselves, whereas the normal camo only shows the visible faces of the models, I don't know why this is either :P
The pistol kicks butt. I have no qualms with it other than the melee sound. Too over-mechanicy. Actually, the majority of the melee, reloading, and pickup/readying sounds seem over-mechanicy instead of deadly as they have in previous games.
I agree with you on the pistol, as far as the melee sounds are concerned, I like them more than older ones just because it seems to me that it quick movements while wearing 1000 lbs of armor would result in much more noise than seems to be included in the older games, but overall, it really isn't that important.
What the heck happened to the sniper? The reticle is gargantuan and pixelated, as if they forgot to scale it down. The sniper itself looks horizontally squished. However, the firing, reloading, etc. sounds are quite awesome.
The sniper model is indeed the Reach model, just when inserted into the CE animation graphs it seems squished because the CE model is placed low in the viewing area, and it has a much flatter and wider scope assembly on top. If you sit and let the idle animation play, you will see that the model is the same, and has the same proportions. As far as the reticle is concerned, I agree that it seems a bit too large, but it didn't really bother me much.
I personally like the Reach banshee, but in this case it really is a moot point. I will say however that the firing rate is the same as the original game. It probably seems slow because the rate of fire in the newer games is much much faster, and also the weapons fire alternating in the newer games, where as in this game they don't
Same as above, just seems slower because of the faster rate in all the newer games, and the lack of alternating fire.
Why are all the Flood Elite Combat Forms white? Why aren't they blue? Or maroon? There aren't even any white elites in the entire game.
I must correct you there, all of the camo elites that you encounter in the game have white armor, but still, I agree that there should have been colored armor permutations of the flood elites.
I agree, but considering as you said that they had to remain within the constraints of the original geometry, that they did a pretty good job.
The doors of b40 and d40 have nasty bitmaps that don't update very well (LOD issues). I personally loved the old design of those doors.
I noticed that as well, it was a little strange to see those textures quickly popping in right before they opened.
Now for some positive feedback:

Edited by Bobblehob on Nov 17, 2011 at 03:38 PM According to classic graphics, spec ops elites are a light blue. I never bothered to look at their color in the remastered version, so you could still be right.

I agree with Bobblehob, considering that 343 had to stay within the constraints of the original game, having to reverse engineer the music (cant get any better than skywalker sound, hands down lol) , & with the duel graphics engine I give them a 10/10.
btw for anybody with texture, low frame rate, sound, or freezing problems just install to HDD, Thats what fixed it for me anyway. (I think its a DVD Drive issue)

I think the game could have been much better if they'd decided to use 2 discs as they could have fitted higher resolution textures and more mp maps. Microsoft's strict policy against multiple discs is stupid. Whoever came up with the idea that the ease of putting a disc in a drive outweighs the advantage of having more disc space should be fired on the spot.
