C:\Program Files\Halo Stuff>tool2 structure levels\X63Z X63Z
Couldn't read map file './toolbeta.map'
building intermediate geometry...
building collision geometry...
reducing collision geometry...
building collision bsp...
### ERROR couldn't build bsp because of overlapping surfaces (orange).
### ERROR couldn't build bsp2d.
### ERROR couldn't build leaf.
### ERROR failed to import collision bsp.

Perhaps the new tool that 'lets' you use bad geometry.

The tool let's you have errors, without this tool I have like 50 errors (orange) I have imported the wrl file and it just shows errors outside of the map.

You should fix those errors. You have overlapping surfaces, in editable mesh find the faces that overlap each other and delete them/make new ones that don't overlap.

Trust me, i've tried but I still can't manage to find then. Also when I use chimp to find errors it shows a random plane that's not even on my map.

If it's not a part of your map, and you don't need it, delete it.

That's the thing, nothing's there! But somehow there's like 3 errors...

Hey...this looks familiar. Most of my errors did correspond to geometry, but every now and then I did encounter errors that clearly were just sitting there. Oh yeah, all the 'hacked' tools I used still found errors, despite the fact that they supposedly tolerate errors. Long story short? If you can endure getting raked across miles of coals, you can overcome this with a small victory such as getting it into Max so you can use Blitzkrieg (people tell me it should work, but Blitzkrieg hates me or something).

I suggest using the most reliable... regular tool?

try this: convert to editable mesh and go to smoothing groups press "clear all" and then press "auto smooth" and weld

No, no... listen to me. The errors say update edge errors, you need to fix the update edge errors.

Maybe three faces are hitting the same edge for your skybox. The whole map, including the skybox, should be like the inside of a balloon: just one big surface, with no 'pockets' or 'holes'.

I just tried that and it says:

Weld
No vertices within threshold.

Strange.
I think I know why that doesn't work... because that's not the solution.
Make sure that the edges pointed out in the wrl are the edges between two and only two faces.
Also, post a picture with the wrl imported.

Basically you have to import the wrl and locate an edge by selecting by name then pressing z to zoom in on it. Select the edge on the model then select it again and again, you will see where it says which# edge you have selected (on the right) , it will change as you click the edge. Meaning that there are 2 edges in that space. Delete one, if it removes a face then go back and delete the other instead. Usually delete the longest or the most visible edge.
I dunno if that makes sense to you or not, but its a great way of fixing those errors.

Actually, what I've found to be useful is, when you are zoomed in on the error in question, instead of selecting edges, simply determine by which corner (i.e. which edges) the error is and select the faces that contain that edge/corner. Hide them. If you have any edges remaining, then it's most likely your error. Now this doesn't work in every case, and sometimes you may find you have an error that requires you to delete a face.
