How do you add bodies of water into your map? I'm using gmax, so if I wanna make a little valley I make it then and the water later or what?

The water material's name needs to have this ! at the end of the name, then while compiling the map in tool, make sure it's saved as a shader_transparent_water.

While watching how to make a map I saw the little river under the tutorial example folder thing. Do I just slap that on my map or do I actually have to go do something, if you know what I mean...

Well, if you go with the transparent_water method, you just apply a water bump-map to the shader, the tutorial way was done through a shader_transparent_chicago with a texture applied.

Okay, no problem, here's how it goes.
If you create a plane and import it into the HEK as a ".shader_transparent_water" file, you can apply a bumpmap to the shader without worrying about UVW mapping.
If you apply a ".shader_transparent_chicago" to the plane, you will have to use the uvw mapping modifier to set the texture up properly. And then you'll have to change the chicago shader's method of scrolling the texture.

Yes, I have that video. I'm still stuck tho, I added the plane. Now when ever I try linking the skybox to frame and stuff it wont work... It only selects the dumb water!$, The dude just does the whole thing, he barely explains anything... I'll try to do it again.
EDIT: I just tried linking again, now I went to check names and I have ChimpError instead of water!$... Edited by a vehicle on Jul 29, 2011 at 11:20 AM
