I'm gonna try and start modelling maps, but I don't have a 3d modeling program. Which should I get?

Get 3ds Max 8.
But if you dont want an older version (reason I suggested it is becuase the built-in exporter only works with 8 and below), get 3ds Max 2012, and use the external exporter. But the external one can cause alot of problems and take a ridiculous amount of time to export your map.

Meh, I'm fine with old versions. As logn as I can create good looking maps, and I CAN create it, then I don't mind. Also that it actually works.
Thanks for telling me.
I seriously hate thier search option... it totally sux. Edited by LegionofShadows on Jul 28, 2011 at 08:55 AM

You can also download the trial version off Modacity.

Just download the demo version and get use to it first. It last's 30 days anyway, and the files will still be compatible when you get the full version.

If you've never modeled before, I suggest you try gmax. It's a really old version of 3ds max that will introduce you to how 3D modeling works. Plus, it's a much smaller download. Gmax is halo-compatible, it just doesn't have as many features as newer versions of 3ds max, most of which you won't be needing to model for halo. It's free and doesn't have a waiting period. The making/editing maps thread suggets gmax to introduce you to modeling ( http://forum.halomaps.org/index.cfm%3Fpage=topic&topicID=8580). If you have no idea how 3D modeling works, you should probably try this to learn how. I started with gmax, learned how to make a map bsp through a tutorial, and then got 3ds max when I upgraded my computer.

'll have to wait till internet gets replenished. 3ds max 8 is not 3ds max 2008. it goes max5,6,7,8,9,2008,2009,2010,2011,2012. 2010 and 2011 are absolutely terrible though, they hang, crash and fart.

Nobody bothered to make a plugin to do that. Nobody here ever respects blender, even after all those extensive changes to the UI which is what everybody is complaining about PLUS a new real-time renderer. -Zekilk
