Hey everyone. I'm in need of some expertise, as i am new to this type of modding: making a biped & importing it into haloce . So far, all i know is that i need several tools, including the vertex weight injector, and other things. I also have a model to use, i got it from one of my friends from virginia.

I do have some questions, however...

1: is there a rig of the marine i can download from somewhere? i can't find anything for it anywhere, all i see are masterchief and elite tags (which aren't generally bad... but yeah.)

1a:seeing as how the masterchief's biped rig is the only human rig i can find next to the civilian (i may use that too), should i just use that instead?

2: how can i get the list of animations, and "import" them to be usable for this thing once i get it converted into a GBXMODEL file?

I've never tried this before, so if you can, bear with me please...

Above all else get yourself a copy of the BlueStreak tools.

It allows you to import both CE models (fully rigged!) and animations (onto those rigs) into any version of 3ds max. That should answer your first question since you can use whatever bone setup you want. It also has a .jms exporter that can handle rigged models (but which has a few other problems so depending on your level of expertise the vertex weight injector may not be a bad idea).

Your second question is substantially more difficult to answer. Making custom animations for a biped is one of the more involving and tedious things you can do in CE, so before anyone can give you any pointers I think it'd be nice to know what exactly you have planned.

1) What kind of biped is this? Is it for AI, players, or machinima?
2) Are you basing this biped off of an existing one (ex: using the human Flood animations as a base for making a zombie) or are you going 100% custom?
3) What do you need the biped to do that its base (if you're using one) doesn't already do?

Thank you for the answer, i appreciate it.

You actually answered (i think) my question about the animations haha. I also used the wrong diction in that sentence. What i MEANT (it's summer, i'm not in college anymore till august. forgive me haha) was that i have a (vastly) poor understanding of how one would attach animations to a rigged model, and have it work in guerilla, as well as in game. er. something like that. I know you have the GBXMODEL file, and the model_animations file, so my question was related to how they existed, cooperated, and ultimately ended in their current state as those file types. I hope that makes sense. Do you know of any knowledge base i can refer to that allows me some chance of grasping this? it's like a new language to me haha.

crap i forgot to answer these...

1. AI, teh lag. Player bipeds are later on in life

2. Yes i am. I am using the marine anims to make a marine haha.

3. nothing really. I'm just trying to import a different model for this character, which i havent taken a look at yet. I am a small tree sprout trying to grow... IOW, a beginner

Thanks for the help though!
