Hi, I recently downloaded Halo CE, and was wondering what things I need to create my own map and mods?
Thanks

There is a place with useful links for tutorials here. They help a lot, use them. Also, DON'T join a mapping team just because you want to learn to map. You never will if you do so. Anyone who would hire you in the state you are in now is only ever going to hold you back. Learn to make good maps on your own or you most likely never will. Please don't take this as me being hostile. It's just a recommendation that I really really stress since I have seen it happening lately in some of these so called mapping teams. (not naming any names) But people who really don't have any idea, IMO, of what they are doing have been snatching up the new people and holding them back to their ultra sub par level.

As an obvious new member however, I think experienced members should at least take the time to make recommendations and help him in other ways.

WOW! I have never seen that before.
Anyway, one thing I do recommend is getting to know some of the older members or members you can see who know what they are doing due to their content they show. Get Teamviewer, get xfire if you don't have it already, get to know some people, ask questions (only if you really can't find the answers). Above all though, actually look at the map tutorial that the halo editing kit gives you. So many questions I have asked before I never needed to ask because they were in one form or another, in that guide.
you know what, let me get you started too.

Start simple, and them progress to newer things. I started with a mod: http://hce.halomaps.org/index.cfm?fid=4083 which for some reason is one of the highest rated maps of all time. Apply your own style to your work, and don't let anyone try to force their ideas upon you. In time, if you you commit yourself to the task, you can create a true work of art, even if Halo isn't the newest game. Any questions, drop me a line on Xfire: halofreek112 Edited by DAS_G_Lion on Jul 21, 2011 at 04:36 PM

What, what, what. If the experienced members here took the time to "help" every new member who registers on this forum and makes a thread like this without reading any of the stickies or doing a single google search on the topic, or even looking at the clearly labeled HEK_Tutorial folder that appears after installing the HEK we'd have no time to do anything else. Also please, enlighten me how we could possibly help this person who has not taken time to do any research, or work whatsoever, other than saying, go look at the tutorials or sticky threads that he should have looked at in the first place.

Because, you learn more from a person, not an outdated tutorial.

Instead of berating him, you simply point him to the to the proper tutorials without comment. It's easy I do it all the time. You and many others assume too much. No one knows if he is being serious or trying to start a flame fest so don't assume. Just answer him strait with links to the relevant information and do it without comment. That is how you help people who have not taken the time to do the research or read the sticky threads. Common courtesy plain and simple.

If a tutorial helped 6 years ago, it should help now too. Edited by mastur cheef on Jul 22, 2011 at 05:16 AM Because the modelling software and image editing software has updated, using a tutorial that covers max 5 and blitzkrieg would be very difficult for someone new to understand who's using max 2011 and bluestreak, or gmax and chimp.

Something as simple as redirecting someone to tutorials has little to no impact on how they'll learn on their own. Here's a place on YouTube for some videos: http://www.youtube.com/user/HaloVideoTutorials In addition, depending on whether you're using Gmax or 3ds, you'll need Bluestreak or Chimp for exporting the model to a .jms file for compiling in Tool: Bluestreak: http://ghost.halomaps.org/bluestreak/ Chimp: http://hce.halomaps.org/index.cfm?fid=1147 People who are starting out on a particular area need to be put on the proper path. We should help each other because that's what a matured and healthy community does. In addition, Elite Slasher is correct about 3ds Max now simply because 3ds Max 11/12 are both fairly different than 3ds Max 10. Edited by DarkHalo003 on Jul 22, 2011 at 05:34 PM

It isn't that much of a difference, but that is why there is a tutorial section here. Edited by mastur cheef on Jul 22, 2011 at 05:11 PM The tutorials on this website are very noob unfriendly, it took me forever to get going on scripting when I first started.
