Ancient topic here: http://forum.halomaps.org/index.cfm%3Fpage=topic&topicID=15263
Decided I should finish this. Idk why I didnt finish it back then lol, I'm thinking it might have something to do with the people who had been insulting me, and then made their own topic right afterwards asking for people to help them replicate the sun I was making.. idk, if it wasn't that, then it was because I was lazy, either way, it doesn't change much.

Sunny Medow (starts out pitch black).. thinking about it.. why did I upload it as a .map instead of .rar? oh well, to early in the morning + cat attacking me (-8 time zone, it is morning here)

You can rip the sun device from the map, and the scripts from there if you want, or just grab this here

The only changes in the script where stuff to make sure it auto-started (since it was acting a bit off), host detection (since I have no clue what globals.globals I built this with) and removing the switch commands. That script file is filled with documentation.

before you complain about the gameplay value, its all about the sun, its graphical based.. wait.. random sharp polygons.. it's... it's a trap? Lets go with that. The map is a trap.

And if you really MUST have a picture of the map, here's one (while its sunny even lol)

I was gonna put full Time of Day controls in the pause menu, but never got around to it. Just make a dormant script like my resync one, use a device_set_position_immediate and then preform use the resync stuff in the script. device position 0.3 is dawn-ish, 0.65 is dusk-ish.

Video version (sped up with game_speed command. Didn't want to sit there for 5 minutes to record one loop. instead spent 2 and a half minutes recording 3 loops)

Nice. Only problem is, like I said, finding a sky that works with it.

You forgot to tick "does not cast shadow" and "brighter than it should be". That's why there are some visual errors. I'm gonna play around with the other settings to see what works best for a sun.

BTW radiocity is old. I'm sure everyone that here have good enough computers to handle dynamic lighting.

Looks cool. Will play hell on low end users, but still nice. Personally I'd rather have a dynamic stand-still sun though. Then you can run the lightmaps to be pure black and let the sun and other map lighting do the rest of the work.

My old computer with 512MBs ram and some graphics card with the minimal requirements to run max graphics handled it fine when I first started it. And if your just gonna have the sun in once place to do your lighting.. not really the best idea, if you want one level of light, just use lightmaps, because dynamic lights sacrifice multipurpose's shines. And it would seem as natrual without it looping, because as you can see, the light on the cliffs doesnt seem right until the sun continues rising and you can tell its coming down the cliffs, because then you understand what its doing.

In all reality, the only things I've done since the version on my old computer is toss it on a device_machine and use my binary sync script lol.
