Is there a way you can play an LAN game without manually connecting the two computers. I know you can play LAN if you

plug in ethernet cord from one computer into another,

or by plugging several computers into a router. This way you can play on LAN, in the LAN lobby.

Is it possible to play on LAN without one of these two methods?

If there was, it wouldn't be called "Local Area Network (LAN)", now would it?

AFAIK, there's only LAN and Internet for our uses (Wi-Fi, 3/4G and others are just varients of the Internet).

You don't have to plug it into the router. You can play LAN games by wirelessly connecting all computers involved to the same, well, local area network. Doesn't even have to be the same router, you could be connected to a repeater router. As long as you're all connected to the same network, you can play LAN games with each other.

So you can't play LAN in long-distance situations?

I've known about a program called Lanoi Pro for a while. I used to use it for Counter Strike Source with my brother. I don't know if it could work with Halo CE.

By the way, the reason I want to play LAN long-distance is because I don't want to have so much lag and ping problems.

._.

You're not going to cut down on lag simply because the option you clicked was "LAN." It doesn't decrease the distance or increase the connection quality between you and your friend.

What causes Hamachi to work so well then? I have used it and had a blast.

I don't know what to tell you. It wouldn't be any different than playing an internet game.

I've used Tunngle to play with a guy who's all the way in Israel while I'm in USA, and as The Cereal Killer said, it really wasn't any different than an internet game.

And I know this isn't the case here, but I was once on a LAN game in the same room as the other person, and the quality of the game was much worse than that of an internet game.

Oh, because I remembered playing Halo Trial with a bunch of friends in camp over LAN, and it had no lag and it was a blast.

You know, even if you hook up two computers that are next to each other and play a LAN game, the lowest the ping will go is about 50-60. I tried this and expected 0 ping.

Hehe, yeah.
I don't know if 34 is normal for an LAN, it seems low. There's only a little lag. The host was my "xfire/xp" desktop and the client was my "3ds max/windows 7" laptop.

Sheese, doesn't anyone read anymore? The absolute LAST place I would look for technical information is on YouTube

People are too lazy now-a-days Dennis, but as of late I have been finding myself enjoying more reading tutorials than I am video ones.
