So I can download the 3ds trial from the autodesk website right? Although i would only be able to get version 2011 right? With the trial, I would need some kind of a request key? After the 30 days, could I just reinstall it with the same request key?

Which one should I get, certainly not 9 because I heard it doesn't work with Blitzkrieg. I also heard that Halo was made with 5.1.

Nah, I'll stick with Gmax. It works fine, and someday if I feel that I'm worthy enough to buy the student edition of 3ds I will. yay :D Yeah, but gmax is fine. cool. Or 3ds trial might work, but I'll probably primarily use gmax.
