I've had this idea but I don't know if it would work well. So you know how you have moving skies? I was thinking if there was two ships drawn into the sky, having a battle. Laser effects would be cool, but just thinking simple here. Could ships be drawn into the sky, so they would move together like clouds?

Clouds are generally scrolling textures.
Skies can have animated objects, though, just like scenery. So yeah, definitely possible.
I don't know about lasers from weapons, but if one could make a shader that blinks bitmaps, or models of lasers like in the intro of the POA level, then sure.
