okay,i made the appropriate bitmap in photoshop,i added it in materials in max and setup a shader_chicago,not being sure if this was the right shader i also looked at the shader_glass.
basically i have no idea how to setup the correct shader for this.here's an image of where i wanted the glass...
glass would added to cover the square gap.
typical image isn't showing up.

not sure about glass but, i would try use the warthog windshield shader (copy paste rename)
then swap to the bitmap you want to use, and adjust from there.

Make sure the texture you made has an alpha channel (transparency).
Compile the Texture in Tool
open the texture in Guerilla
Change Color Key Transparency to Explicit Alpha and save
Compile the texture once more in Tool
it should now be transparent.

got it done,i had already setup the transparency etc when i made the bitmap in photoshop but,the info would have been handy if i hadn't,i went with the windshield shader then added my bitmap to it.
thanks for the help with this,just need to fix the texture on the border :)
