I need help with 3D in GMax. When you make a model is it just one full object, or several smaller objects? I don't understand at all. Please help.

It is neither: It's simply a perception of data. Once you understand that what you see is all there is, then you will begin to understand the art of 3D. Just remember, nothing is real.

I was just messing with you, 3D objects are just illusions, they're actually hollow. Not a whole lot to it.

Erm... to actually answer your question, it's all one shape. Most 3D models in halo have to be sealed meshes, that is, not have any holes in it.

Search for and download some of the basic/beginner map making tutorials on this site. They will answer a lot of questions you may have about the basics of 3D modeling. Answering each one here would take too much time and headache.

Models for bsp's (binary structure planes), otherwise called map models, need to be made of one solid sealed object. If you have a world made for a map (a world is another name for a bsp), it will need to have no holes, have a skybox (which is not actually a box), and have materials applied. As Gonzo said, watch tutorials regarding the basics of modeling for maps.

All depends on what you mean. Everything 3d is made from triangles. As well as you need to have one solid model with no holes to use for Halo.

Stop repeating what's already been said. Through the input of several members, this thread has established that:
- 3D models can 'exist' in several states, depending on how you imagine it, but are hollow.
- Halo requires all models (except non-collidable) to be sealed off completely.
- That reading/watching tutorials is one of the best ways (easily available, that is) to learn how to construct better 3D objects, as well as to learn how to use the gmax/3ds Max interface.
That said, let those facts stand for themselves, and contribute some new information. But still, go watch those tutorials. They helped me out immensely. Skim through the HEK tutorial as well.
