No. It's probably for the best that you don't use the assault rifle animations as a reference for what you should have and shouldn't have in your animation.

Well yes, but the assault rifle was Bungie's "testing ground" for animations. In it, there's multiple animations that aren't being used, taking up space. Here's what you should use:
first-person fire-1.JMA first-person reload-full.JMA first-person reload-empty.JMA first-person ready.JMA first-person melee.JMA first-person throw-grenade.JMA first-person idle.JMA first-person moving.JMO first-person overlays.JMO (this one is optional)

Overlays are not entirely optional like Gamma said. Actually, by his logic, everything would be "optional" save for an idle so you can see the gun.
Overlays are the movements for when you look around or move around (not to be confused with the moving though). So, if I remember correctly... Frame 0- Origin Frame 1- Moving Backwards Frame 2- Moving Forwards Frame 3- Moving Left Frame 4- Moving Right Frame 5- Looking Left Frame 6- Looking Right Frame 7- Looking Up Frame 8- Looking Down Frame 9- Automatic Firing (where the gun will go back to after rapidly-firing for a bit) Edited by ODX on Nov 19, 2010 at 06:08 PM

Optional for people who're just starting animations :c

Optional in terms of making the actual overlays, but it's still somewhat of a required animation or else the whole set looks flat.
CAD made a script for it, I can upload it if you want but I'm unsure if it'll work in whatever version of Max you use.
