im doing a halo montage for a friend and wondered if my 3ds max can be used to add effects and do some cool things for the vid,is this possible? thank you

3ds Max is a modeling/animation/etc program and can do virtually nothing with a film itself, it can however be used to make intros to videos.

okay,can i incorporate say 3d text that over laps with the video scenery in the back ground?so that the 3d text shows in the video?

Yes, if you want to do editing of a video, then you should invest in Adobe After Effects CS5. It has a whole range of applications which will let you add fx, sound, etc. to your video.
