i get an error about a degenerate triangle.
Here the Debug.

Hit control-c now if this isn't right.

how do i fix this?

Import the .wrl into your max file, find the trianlges it highlights as blue, and either fix the UV's or fix the triangle itself.
Then reexport, restructure, and relight.
I had to do this so many times for Pitfall and the Descent bsp.

alright but whats wrong with the UVs
and how would i fix the triangle

tool is very picky, anything could've happened, really.
Try different things with it, unwrap it or extend it or something, because something in there is causing it to freak.

my shaders for the cliff bitmaps had simple parametrization or what ever

Open sapien and try to duplicate what caused the exception, then check the debug and post it here.
