A sequel to Coldsnapwar, with the situation looking fairly bleak for the UNSC as they make their last stand against the Covenant on Coldsnap...

Just driving around with some Elite buds of mine, and photographing the battle underway!

I'll add some more pics later...

Sorry if I offended you. Like I said, I'm sure the map is going to be great. Good luck with the pictures.

No offense taken...look for more pics tomorrow.

er....fix the elite anims for the gunner and other seats that do require fixing, or download the mp elites here:
http://hce.halomaps.org/index.cfm?fid=3739
and change your actor_variant biped to these.

also, make sure that the ai look properly, not jerk around like the previous coldsnap_war you made.

please add in some enemy air vehicles, possible some dogfighting, with some on patrol across their border. Need some way to make using the longsword a challenge/risk (maybe some powerful SAM's that have a low tracking rate, so jets are fine)

LS is just too uber to make it a viable option, and jets are just too easy to flag cap, with no challenge from enemy aircraft/ground defences

the jets problem? same solution as the LS, but the SAMs are less powerful, and home in well.

No LS or Mythos in this map, though there is one hidden porta-nuke...Spartans jerking around has been fixed. No AI dogfighting here, all snow and ice battle. I already have several maps out there with dogfighting in them.

Maybe I will release a sequel to this map with AI dogfighting. Too many AI driven vehicles make the encounters lock up, and sometimes the map will even crash. I tested with two elite piloted banshees, and the AI on the ground just froze. I'll experiment around a bit for some happy medium...

with reference to:
1st pict: i hope you aren't gonna use the coldsnap pelican for the map, the physics absolutely sucked.
14th pict: whats with the two different flames for the jet thrusters?

and do tell me if you have taken my suggestion for my previous post, that is to fix the elite anims by hook or crook.

NO NO NO!!! ARGH!!! two of the worst possible ideas no offence!! The Coldsnap Pelican sucked big time, because it didn't have any firepower what so ever, and that stupid jet utilizes the worst primary fire out of all the jets. those explosive rounds never hurt a fly, where those nice spamming bullets are very handy at preventing shield restore, and dogfighting. If you think the pelican is too OP, make it so that there is no driver controlled guns, so the co-pilot has to gun for them. Same scenario with the coldsnap Peli Gun Turret, but this time the guns are actually able to kill something that isn't in a 5 degree angle of depression from the gunner view.

Forget this map, it's going to fail. AI's don't syncronizize and I see it's multiplayer because I see a rejoin in on one of the pics. Forget it or make it single player.

As I always say, if you don't like it, and don't want to try it, then don't download it.

The last time I checked, the original Coldsnapwar had over 20,000 downloads...

I'm just pointing out that one guy sees an enemy standing next to you while the other guy belives he is still at that bridge over there. If one guy already killed every AI near him but the second keeps screeming for help while you see no enemys left there is not mutch of a battle. Thats what happened to coldsnapwar, noone plays it because there is no real battle together whit the other players.

The map: No Way Out is great fun to play with others, sure there is a fair bit of lag, but it's just great to mess around on. Many people don't like coldsnap due to the huge size it has, and how empty it is with few players. a bunch of AI fighting gives an extra element of combat while you try to make your way across the bridge to steal the flag (longswords are easily shot down, jets tend to fall off the edge of the blue team's cliff, and pelicans are virtually unarmed. Hogs are a great way to get around)

And please don't flame people for their ideas, it's different if you suggest an alternative that you would like to see made, or believe would solve issues. AI Synchronisation doesn't even matter when it comes to heavy vehicles. how often in a large scale battle do you bother warning allies of enemies at a certain position?

Besides, these maps are fun for machinima, or just joke movies, because you get your team members as well as AI, and there is no other way to get those two in one map.

Pretty popular map, and probably my all time favorite. I just enjoyed putting AI on it, and experimenting with the possibilities of playing both sides. I then like to share my map experiments, and hope that someone also enjoys playing around with them too!

By the way, try Desert_Floodwar. It works fairly well in multiplayer mode.

Have you ever been shot by an enemy that you see lying death on the ground in front of you but on the server is standing behind you? I have and it sucks. He can see and kill me but I can't kill him. Thats what happens whit AI's in multiplayer maps. I just warn you for it, I'm not saying you are a fool if you like to player whit AI's.

@niels:
not all maps compiled in multiplayer mode and have AI in them are actually meant to be played with multiple real human players.
otherwise, everyone who has made an AI mod would have compiled in SP mode instead, and quite a huge section of the Modified Multiplayer Maps on the Halomaps site would have been transferred to the Modified Singleplayer Maps section instead.
its just because some consider it easier and more straightforward (its the default setting in sapien and guerrila for ripped multiplayer maps and scenarios after all) to compile via multiplayer, and compiling via singleplayer requires the player to type in commands, which some find it less convenient.

of course, i would support Mysterion if he chooses to compile this as singleplayer (so he can put more tags and variety in), but i don't think Mysterion would not know that AI don't sync over the net, considering his past experience with AI maps and the amount of time he has been on this forum.

Hey, don't get me wrong, it's a great map and heaps of people love it and play it. I'm just saying that a lot of the people who don't complain that it is too big and empty. ever try a 1v1 CTF? it's like playing hide and seek in space with blindfolds over your helmets. I do love playing "Hide and Seek" Juggernaught on Coldsnap and Extinction though =)
