That phantom isn't actually moving, the camera just switched over to a stationary one with shakey effects. But what I meant was gameplay wise

wow lol. TOPT ЛОЖЬ!!! sorry had to say it. what does a cutscene have to do with walking around in a vehicle? you dont need to walk around in one anyways like as said before, there're seats for that.

The pelican SHOULD be weaker. The idea that its stronger than a phantom is a load of balonie.

Except for the fact that it DOES have missiles, and a chaingun to boot.

I think Bungie intended the phantom and spirit to be that weak, because they would have had banshees and other craft as support.

It would be cool if you had carpet bomb(plasma) for the wraith, but it shouldn't just be falling grenades, like people might do, but instead fuel rod shots, because then it would reach the target faster, and would probably compensate for that with less damage.

Imagine the damage it could do...

Fog should be used to cover the clipping. L4D2 uses that :)

so when you enter with the action button youll be able to move about inside the vehicle and leave it with the same action button

...naw that prolly wont work cause you aren't following the momentum of the vehicle you are on so you'll get pushed back anyways but without dying or picking up weapons

not another year. he's already finished modelling he's just mapping and fixing any errors to get it through tool. i'd say another 2 months maybe a little more.

Hi, I've been following this map for a long time and I'm really excited to see it come out. I've actually half-prepared a huge post for this topic on gameplay issues, but in the meantime, I want to say something on the Phantom dropship issue.

Now, I've been playing this game for a long time, and I've only ever seen anyone use any vehicle as a dropship once (Not counting the Coldsnap pilot/co-pilot/passenger who grabs the flag maneuver), so just letting you know that. Mostly they use the Pelican as a heavy gunship kind of thing, and just ignore the Phantom completely.

But if you would want to make the idea WWLinkmasterX described work, my idea would be to add a button to the pilot's controls (Mapped to flashlight, probably) that just freezes the Phantom in place. Just completely freezes it, so you can walk around without falling through, similar to how people would use console commands to freeze the Draco in place to make a "Skybase" in some RP servers (Leaving the guns still usable while the button is either pressed or toggled, of course.). Not sure how you would accomplish this, or if it's even possible being mapped to a button, but that's my idea for making a viable dropship.

Kal has a valid point here involving use of a mapped flashlight key. A while back a few friends and i toyed with the idea of a player based jet pack (literally part of the player not a vehicle) which would be used in larger maps as a sort of transportation method out of horribly deep creveses. It was more or less a damage effect that pushed the player airborn for however long the flashlight battery lasted. Two variants of the idea were tested one with a battery to limit flight, and the other with infinite flight time (skilled pilots only need apply). A similar method could be used to do what Kal said in the form of a "damage effect" that holds the phantom airborn but wears off the moment the vehicle is empty.

Or...you could set up the phantom's physics so that it will stop in mid-air and save the flashlight button for the hatches. Just saying...

Yes, it worked perfectly as long as you knew how to use it. It worked most effectively with needlers or sniper rifles. But back on subject: Anyone toying with phantom physics for this?

My question is thus: if the idea of a dropship is to get in, get out, and rinse and repeat, why add a toggle that freezes the dropship, thus opening it up to more fire? If players are intelligent with their bird, they'll fly in, land (hold crouch), and deploy troops, then get out. If I weaken the on-board defenses, the role of the Pelican will hopefully switch from offense to deployment.

That said, I don't think the freeze toggle is necessary; in my experience (which is vast) with Pelicans, to deploy someone, you either airdrop them in or just land. Then you get out, providing support as necessary. The art of deployment in this manner, especially for flag runs, is a whole new element of the game, and should remain intact as is. The idea here is to simply take away the Pelican's offensive ferocity. I am toying with two options: the spelican from coldsnap, with the rear-facing, independent turret, or the epelican from Extinction with watered-downed weaponry.

Progress report: I'm down to ~230 errors, but I've received help for removing those on red's side, whilst I correct those on blue. I continue work in the form of tag compilation. Once the errors go bye-bye, all I need to do is map the cliffs and terrain, then get it into Sapien, make a few spawns for players and vehicles, and bam! Alpha is ready to go. I haven't received a progress update on the errors I'm getting help for, but I still stand at one month til alpha release. HOWEVER! I go back to college soon, so, depending on my schedule, progress may become slower. I'd still say two months til alpha as a worst case scenario, but I don't see it that way.

Alpha testing slots will open soon if enough errors are taken care of. This will be conducted in a separate forum thread, but I'll post the link here. Those interested should standby, but prepare your statements.

Also, HAS ANY1 MADE A GODDAM PELICAN WITH AN ACTUAL HATCH, WHICH COULD THEN ACT AS A RAMP? Seriously, the pelican is exposed to the elements. That said, it would be kinda difficult for the passengers to see out of the back, to see if they are going to die.

Don't know how you'd make that work...

Anyway, I will definitely be an Alpha tester. You can count on me, sir.

It'd be so cool if people got the phantom grav lift to work... Make sure you get hatches on the side, Gonzo. That way, people cant slaughter your drop peoples.

I plan on putting a pelican with a backdoor in-game. If I can get it working sometime in the near future then I might let Gonzo use it if he want's to.

I appreciate your desire to assist, but I am not calling for testers at this moment. Let me make this clear: when it comes time to test, I will post a link to a separate thread on this thread. There, you may read the procedures, expectations, etc. for testing. Testers are NOT selected because they volunteer. They are considered because they volunteer. Testers are chosen based on their self-declared skillset, trust and merit, and availability, among other factors. I just don't want to generate the impression that I choose testers because you ask to be one. If I did it that way, I fear I'd be inundated with requests.

Now, when I post the link, you may submit for testing. Until then, get psyched for it.

Dropships: the Pelican model will remain as is. No changes (unless I add a rear-facing turret). The Covie will either get the Phantom or Spirit (or both? Oh...), but both models will be H3 standard and stock, respectively. I'm only touching up the weaponry, and if I can, I'll add in vehicle pickup scripts for ALL dropships in select zones, as seen on other maps.
