I'm trying to use the metal strips narrow (b30) to texture my base walls. However, this map is divided into several parts and I only need one of them. I'm quite sure whatever method Bungie used to texture sidewinder is in 3ds max 7, however, I have no idea how to use it. Perhaps a picture could illustrate what I'm trying to say better: metal strips narrow bitmap: sidewinder walls: Edited by ShadowFox0809 on Jun 19, 2010 at 11:58 PM

Modifiers>UVW Unwrap First select the faces you want that certain part on. Then UVW Unwrap. And move the verts/edges around to get to how you want it.

yes I know how to do that, but I was hoping there might be an easier way to do this. That is, using part of the bitmap file while using the UVW mapping modifier.

In the UVW Map, there are 2 sets of values. Top is how much to stretch, bottom is how much to tile. Have it tile until that parts get to the middle (you may have to rotate the direction by clicking on the uvw map name in the little window, then gizmo, then rotating the gizmo by 90 degrees), modify either the U or the V depending on which direction works best. Then stretch it to get your desired look. Also use Planar, don't use Box. Only map each flat section at a time. Just make sure to use the same values for each section for a consistent look.
