you make your texture have a alpha map

Forget finding a tutorial. This is an alpha map in a nutshell. you use shades of white and black. In the texture, make a new channel and call it alpha. The white part of the alpha defines the Alpha. In your shader your alpha controls the blend between the primary and secondary detail maps. so things in your alpha channel that are white will be one detail map, things that are black will be the other detail map. things that are more grayish, (not completely white or black) will be a blend of both detail maps. IDK if anyone has a tutorial on this that would help more but you can search Halomaps for one perhaps.

also how you do this exactly may depend on what you are using. Are you using gimp, PS, etc...?

I would recommend using gimp but did you understand most of what I was talking about there?

Oh I thought you meant to make it so you can have multiple textures in one shader.

you have bad uvw's, import the debug.wrl and look where its showing blue, that needs re-uvw'ing.
