I just made my first map, a single player version of Outpost Rio. I had several questions, but before I get to that, the link is: http://hce.halomaps.org/index.cfm?pg=3&fid=5201.

My questions are:

Is the game too difficult?
Is the voice acting tolerable? Or would it be better with text-based communication?
I know the draco needs to be scenery and not a vehicle so bodies won't fall through, but I have to edit the gmax model. I'm a total noob at texturing, so chimp and tool tell me it's not textured right. Anyone know of a good texturing tutorial?
How would I get it on xbox so I can play co-op with friends, or is there a way on pc?
Was this map enjoyable, and would you like to see more?
Any constructive criticism you have.

If you could answer any of those, that would be great.

I thought it was interesting, some parts I found were a little more difficult. But one question, How much do you have to shoot the sniper? I ended up nading him and having to restart the checkpoint a couple times. However it could have been due to my lower power weapons when I got there. End wasn't too bad but it was a little unrealistic due to the fact that he jumped into a 5 ft stream from a very long way up and survived just fine.

I enjoyed It quite alot.
I liked the Desert eagle (My curiosity found it = D)
But mainly I loved the gameplay, I found It slightly difficult at times, And the assassination part with the sniper was Fun (could of added more rounds to it though).
But Great all the same.

I actually enjoyed it, and for a first sp level, I think it was great. There were some parts that DID get a little difficult, like it took me 4 tries to survive the onslaught, but adding assasinations such as with the sniper added a new element to gameplay.

Overall, good job! Hope to see more maps coming from you!

Would be nice if maybe it had its own BSP, as the spaces just seemed to large and he gameplay kind of forced into the areas. Maybe consider changing the setting on the map to a more foresty a30 type feel. Throw in some large tress and bushes, maybe even some rain to make the sniping all that more interesting. Then, maybe add a more interesting tagset, maybe either keep it as classic as possible(very little Halo 2 content) or go for a newer look and feel.IMO the sniping was way to easy, maybe you should make it two traitors instead of the one, and you have only 1 shot, and you must wait for the perfect moment to take the shot and kill both of them.

Well done! Especialy for your fist map, can't wait to see what you do next.

Why would you need to edit the Gmax model? can't you just create anew scenery and put the draco tags in the model and collision fields?

Was this map enjoyable, and would you like to see more?

The turret was meh, it had a messed up camera angle and couldn't aim down far enough
I think the AI movement positions should be spread out more

well you need to get to the onslaught, but that could have been because you didn't know where to go. You are right though. It needs some kind of directional indicators for each main objective not just the sniper and assassination. Perhaps also some floor arrows would help.

Nice job, I do agree with lod3x, add some music. It would also be nice with some floor markers. All in all? thumbs high and keep up the good work.

When i killed them all a nav point appeared, i think you missed the mob on the cliff, before you go down the path through the waterfall, turn right and there is a elite honour gaurd standing at the cliff edge.

Here's what I thought:

You're supposed to sneak in so why is there a big ace firefight goin on in the underground?

Needs more stealth

Needs more easier and fun encounters

needs more health packs

needs less cqb hunter fights and more open hunter fights

needs more weapons (by that I mean an armory of some sort, maybe consisting of more stealth weapons like odst smgs, as well as other normal weapons like brs smgs and shottys

needs more organized marines (shouldn't even be marines really should be odsts)

If youre part of an elite odst squad where's your squad?they should probably follow you around the map and support you

why would the leak have only one sniper for a guard? (should have some corrupt marines at his side and guarding the place)

the leak's entrance didn't seem very epic, play like the song high charity when he walks in or something (come to think of it, why didn't he walk in?)

maybe have the guards (If you put them in) maybe break into conflict with the covenant when the leak gets sniped

if not, maybe have brutes that blame the assasination of the leakon the elites and a small civil war breaks out on the map and you can sneak through the firefights

halo 1 bipeds are sooooo meh, use h3 grunts, delta's h2 elites, and either h2 or cmt jackals

same with weapons

needs more variety in ai (halo 1 only consited of a few aliens which sucks, but corrupt marines, geists, and or brutes will fix this)

sniper cutscene was friggin awesome!

needs more music (most people here have h2 musicand stuff, ask them for some tracks or use original h1 music)

better turret plox?

vehicle fight plox? (just makin you aware that that could be a possibilty)

needs more amunitionzzzzz


That's about it, and it may sound like I'm giving demands but that's just how I write my reviews, theyre really just what I'd do if I were making the map

@ eliteslasher: in this build you have to grenade him or hit him in the back. I'll fix that.

@ L0d3x: thanks for the critique. I watched a friend playing through today, and you're very right about it needing more guidance as to where to go. (and music)

@ Megaguirus: The draco has doors that shut when it's driven. If you make it scenery tag, the doors will be closed. So you have to edit the doors in the model. And I'm glad the ending made your day. :)

You're right about the ai being slightly dumb, and I think I can fix that. I'm not sure how to make the marines follow though. I tried to use the AI following tut, but they just run off...

No, except if your like me and apparently try to do the impossible. Killing the whole group on onslaught (See video, count the screams? :P - http://www.xfire.com/video/27194b/)

Not bad, it did feel to me that the map was rather empty. Also inside the structures but I would like to see more.

Nav points, I think it took me 30 minutes to figure out that I actually had to get pwned on the bridge instead of my instinct to engage combat head-on as shown in the video one of my many attempts :P The mission was quite nice, AI needs improvement. They were all a bit too happy to keep standing still when one of their buds drop dead due to a snipershot. Also sticky nading the enemies at onslaught made them freeze. Something else:
At starting base what is up with the moment you enter the gun position of the ship that the whole allied forces become enemies and all of a sudden they can shoot through walls? I don't mind the twist of game, but shooting through walls o_0!!
Also the floor seems to be buggy when you kill and allie within the starting base it's just drop right through it. Some aspects seemed a bit rushed, take your time with the next on! Keep up the good work ;)
