Msg. 1 of 5
When ever i try to compile a level, i keep getting a whole list of errors with tool. ### ERROR edge #4 is open (red). ### ERROR edge #9 is open (red).
I get about 20 to 30 of the same message with only one complie command. The last 2 lines say ### ERROR failed to build collision geometry. ### ERROR failed to import collision bsp.
01.09.10 15:51:36 tool pc 01.00.00.0609 ---------------------------------------------- 01.09.10 15:51:36 reference function: _write_to_error_file 01.09.10 15:51:36 reference address: 42ca20 01.09.10 15:51:36 Couldn't read map file './toolbeta.map'
This is a vista x64, quad core system. I think that this is all the info i can get for this error. Is there any way tofix this?

The ### ERROR edge #4 is open (red). ### ERROR edge #9 is open (red). error is exactly what it says it is. I used to get this, try remodeling your map or, you can use the .wrl file. For example, if your level is called "awesomeness.jms" (w/out quotes), then after you try to compile it, there should be a file in your root CE directory (usually C/Program Files/Microsoft Games/Halo Custom Edition) called awesomeness.wrl. If you are using gmax, use the wrl importer that comes with Chimp, if you are using 3DS Max, there is another way that I don't remember. Consult the official tutorial for that.

In 3ds go to File>Import>wrl (in dropdown) and choose the name that matches the jms.
from there the steps are the same. select the .wrl and uncheck all the boxes in the popup hit OK.
this will show you where all your open edges are. if you take a close look you will usually be able to figure out why the edge is open. many can be eliminated simply by welding all verts at 0.01. others you may have to target weld like where two tris share and edge with one tri. another thing you may have to do is hide the faces on either side of the open edges, go to edge selection, drag a box around those edges and delete them, unhide the faces. if they reappear you got the right edges. if not, recreate those faces.
