Hi all I am trying to modify the stock UI. I ripped it with hek+, but whenever I try to compile i get a ton of errors mainly ones like "couldn't read #xx bytes from offset #xxxxx in local tag 'ui\shell\bitmaps\xxxxx.bitmap" HEK+ rip error?
I just want to change the music, and the preview images of maps. I know there are tutorials, but they talk about doing it from scratch and I still fail.

I've devised a script for changing the music, but it's probably easier to just replace the original sound\music\title\title4.sound_looping.

I changed the music by changing the loop in the title1.sound_looping tag..

If you take away in, the loop will stop as soon as you move your mouse over multiplayer, settings, credits, profiles, quit.. (fast) but.. if you keep the in, this won't happen, make sure your .wav is 44K though! else your sound will be sped up..

This is great help, but how do I compile the ui?? I don't think hek handles ui.map very well because even after doing no changes "build-cache-file \levels\ui\ui" spits out a billion errors.

that's because you got corrupted tags, I had them too, no one can rip the ui.map somehow, well, some..

on hce.halomaps.org, enter "new tags" (without quotes), in the search and download the 28 mb one.

copy it to your tags folder.. Then, it will ask to overwrite and stuff, just hit yes to all, then.. compile, and it will work.

oh and you don't need the "\" right before levels,
just: tool build-cache-file levels\ui\ui


EDIT: you may need to delete:

"tags\ui\shell\bitmaps\trouble_brewing.bitmap" and "tags\ui\shell\bitmaps\background.bitmap"

Alrighty I think that what I needed to know. I'm bout to try it here in a bit. I figured the ui was one of those things HEK+ couldn't do kinda like scorpion animations. Now i can do some more music and try to change the map preview bitmaps (maybe even add some for common maps like coldsnap if its possible). I'm also gonna see if its possible to make a main menu button that will connect to a specific server. Thanks guys
