Hey.. Recently, I booted up my old copy of Halo CE, downloaded a few maps and went online. Then I realized I was missing a few good ones, downloaded them, and went back online. :P

Anyway.. While online, I have been noticing a bunch of people (Upgrading to Windows 7, new players, Victims of Vista, Ect..) constantly complaining about losing all of their maps to a system reboot, error, or similar. I've also heard people suggesting someone pack a bunch of maps into one big folder to allow easy access for everyone without having to download each of them one at a time. And I've got a bit of free time.. So why not?

Originally.. I just thought this would make things easier on users, But I have since realized it could have a positive effect on the community as a whole. If everyone has the same basic maps downloaded, it would make running and playing in a server alot easier, because it would take away from the stress of having to go download something every 25 minutes (For the player) or worry about losing players if you change the map. (For the admins.)

The possible negative effects of this would be accesive amounts of new players having access to a large majority of mainstream maps instantly. (Which could cause frustration in populated servers.)
But then again.. What new player ever wants to play something besides Coldsnap or Hugeass?

So now, I'm looking for input. This map pack will, of course, credit each and every mapmaker used in it's creation, along with each of the websites the maps were obtained from. What do you guys think about this? Could it help the community.. Or hurt it? Do you think Dennis will shut this down because it violates some TOS agreement I've never heard of? And what maps would you like to see going into this?

If you are going to do this. I REALLY reccommend talking to these people and making sure that the ones you are putting in are only the most liked maps. Personally though, I wouldn't reccomend it.

I've already thought of bandwidth. I am currently looking into several websites that may be able to support this project. It's a little touch and go at the moment. And Ia m looking for peoples opinions in game. (Not just on current maps, but also on maps they would like to see revived, such as bacons racetrack.)

The game is slowly dying anyway. It will most likely be gone within a few years. It's not worth spending money to save it.

That is his choice. He believes it is worth saving. What I said was an opinion, not fact.

If you do this, that would help alot of people. Go check up on the most player maps in servers list and highest rated maps. Should slim down to some maps that would be worth it.

Just remembered. My brother did this a few months back, so it doesn't have any recent maps in it, but it does have quite a few good ones. Big file, though.

Thank you to both of you for your opinions. I am well aware that the file will be large.. Which is why I need feedback. And thanks for the download link... It may come in handy.

You could make a UI w/ the most played maps on it.

Yea.. I wouldn't trust a torrent that much.. And just think of how many useless maps would be in there? I am THINKING of putting together a little team, and we'll all tackle different maps to sort the crud from the good. This is just a thought at the moment, as it would not be easy to form a team of responciable people these days.

Why? Torrents are very efficient and useful. Not for pirated crap, but for distributing large files.
If I can start up my pc sometime this week, ill put together a RAR and put the good maps I have in the RAR. of course, I would need help seeding :P

It's not so much what I think... But do you honestly think people are more likely to download from a website, or a torrent?
