I was reading somewhere that you need to make a smaller cube, and put it inside the original cube, and reverse the normals of the second cube, to hollow out the original cube. How can I do this?

make the first cube, set coordinates to 0,0,0...select all the faces and click "flip"
make the second cube, set coordinates to 0,0,0... click "attach" and pick the first cube.

that should do it, at least what you are describing anyway.

E: oh wait...that would make the normals go...errr don't flip the first one flip the second one.

For some reason it doesn't let me 'flip'. I've tried it before, and instead of creating an 'open' space at the side, it just turns my cube purple, and keeps all the faces up. Here's an example of what I mean by 'it creates an open space': http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2iM55RyUkvM Go to 3:33

Edit: Quick question, how do you 'attach' again?

ooohhhh hold on...you're not talking about what i though you were talking about lol. you just want to be able to see what the video shows.

so nevermind what i said before, you need to turn on "backface cull" ...it's a checkbox in preferences..not sure which tab...someone asked this before and i forgot where it was then too. you could probably do a search and find out exactly where.

and , i you ever do need to attach something get out of poly selection by un-highlighting vert, edge, triangle, poly..whatever and click the "attach" button. then, either click on what you want to attach to, or pick one from the object list.

I don't think so by default, but you can set it up in Customize>User Interface. Find the option and set up the hotkey, if there isn't already one, it will tell you what it is

Ok thanks for getting that to work for me, but I still need to know how to hollow an object out.
So for example, I have a solid cube. I want to it so it has a hole in it so it is almost like a hallway, with 1cm thick walls on the top, left and right, but have a opening at the very bottom of the cube.
So basically, a house, without a roof.

So convert it to editable mesh, then select the left and right faces and go where to inset/bridge?

You are in editible mesh.
Convert to editible poly and you will have the tools.
