It's finally here! After 5 weeks of hard work, short nights of sleep and a lot of pizza for dinner. I'm very proud to present my Beta release of Host a Tournament.

So what's new?

-This forum, after you register on http://www.generationheadshot.com a forum account is created with the same username and password. This way you don't have to sign up twice and can start posting right away.

-Tournament layout, you all might remember the very basic tournament layout which wasn't that clear.

Thanks to Astr0s who made a concept of a new layout and produced the CSS, I was able to update the tournament layout to my liking.

-Different groups for tournaments, Free 4 All, Team vs Team, Clan vs Clan or even Interclan!
It's all possible for you to use.

-Public Profile page, each member that registers has a profile public profile page which can be seen by all.
Most info on this page can be edited, also an avatar can be uploaded to give your character a bit more look.

-Tournament Creation options have been expanded so that all the rules are clear even a box for additional info can be filled.

-After a host creates a tournament invites will be send to all members participating.
This means that those members have 5 days to either accept or reject the invite.
If after those 5 days 8 or more players accepted the tournament the tournament will be created.

There are still some other functions but I'll let you guys explore that on your own ^_^

If you find bugs on this website please report them on in the Bugs forum.

Game on!

Looking good.

I advise disabling xfire as a required field to register, as xfire is extremely pointless and shouldnt be needed for a website.

oh by the way.
if this is for halo CE too, i suggest adding something that allows the user when setting up a tournament to put custom maps in. (just like a little box of text you can type the name into) and if there's a way when you view the battle log or whatever and see the map they played on, the user could upload a picture of the map.

I guess this would work well, though one could easily do it on their own

Great site. This should pit me against more than mediocre players.
I suppose you could challenge people via x-fire anyway , even if they're in different timezones , they're bound to meet each other once in a while.
Im a totally mediocre player myself.

First of thanks for all the positive replies.

@Scott, I have to agree with you on the Xfire part.
The reason why I did make it a requirement was, I wanted players to have an "easy" way of communicating. In my mind Xfire is a good solution, but I can imagine that some players might dislike it. Will think about a pm system instead on the website.

@Higuy, It is for Halo CE as well, I have a drop down list atm for the maps, but since there are so many maps. I agree that it would be wise to have a input box instead.
As for the battle log adding maps sounds good.
Uploading a picture of the map maybe halomaps.org could play a major part, also for providing the maps for download.

@sargejohnson, That's always a problem, but I believe that it's always possible to have a game during the weekend no matter what the time zone difference is.
If gamers don't play their match the server will, random select a winner. So the tournament never dies. ;)

@Buggy Virus, true but from experience I can say that "human hosted" tournaments usually require the host too much time and effort to get people to play their match. Also what if the host doesn't get online for 2 weeks, the tournament dies. So I came up with this idea, to build a tournament system which is as much as possible automated by use of the server.

Hope to see you all on the website soon! :D

Yes, anyone proficient in marketing will tell you to develop a chat or PM system on your site. You want your website to be a one stop shop and you want users to stay there. The more content you have and the easier you make it for the user, the more they are likely to stay.

The store system you have is an example of this. It serves no real purpose, but the users that find enjoyment in getting meaningless prizes for their posting and such will find it entertaining.

@Higuy/Sean
For custom edition maps, you could add an input field for the Halomaps Map ID (fid=4918), then write a script to grab the download link and pictures off the maps page. So you have a picture and download link for the map ready to go on your tournament page.

How odd, you should just get a message that someone already registered instead of a sql error Will look in to it!

Also there is no account with the name: e3po

Can you post what you typed in exactly? ( except for password of course )
Might help me solve the problem

EDIT: e3po try again please, I'm sure it will work now :)

@Scott: Xfire is no longer a requirement to register
