Many things can improve AI intelligence, but, as Gamma said, too many people focus all their attention on Command lists. Move positions, firing positions, scripts, and various other things can all add to the AI intelligence, thus creating a better experience for the player.

absolutely true there.
and yes, RPG Open 5 is unprotected, and about toolpro.......
i heard there are quite a few problems with it, but i ain't sure.

It hardly takes any time. It depends whether you want the AI to appear intelligent, and responsive. That takes much longer, not to mention the distasteful command lists that 3/4 of all AI map makers absolutely must add in. I say "distasteful", because it robs the AI of the ability to appear intelligent and responsive, but merely act as slaves, forced to follow subroutines that the AI map maker adds in. There are other ways around it, but of course, no one wants to use it, because they're happy with their command lists.

You really don't like command list do you?

Command lists ruin any chance of an engaging AI. Many people use them for an innocent purpose, like making AI move towards a location. However, it looks unnatural when you shoot at them, and they still just keep running towards the location. Command lists are fine for cutscenes, when you don't WANT the AI to do anything else. However, an increasing number of people just use them to move AI around. It hardly takes any effort, and the result isn't very appealing.
