Hello. I've tried to reinstall Halo PC and CE yesterday but I've had a problem that's common between both games. The installation goes well but whenever I try to update the games to 1.08.616, my computer fails to give me the chktrust prompt. I've tried updating within the game. I've tried running haloupdate.exe. I've also download both halo(pc/ce)108.exe and ran that. Everytime the update is downloaded, the whole process stops. I can't figure out why my computer won't show me the chktrust prompt to allow the patching to continue. Does anyone have any solutions?
Also, I am using a legitimate CD and CD key to install. If I've left out any needed details, please ask. Edited by ESG SLAYER on Sep 11, 2009 at 12:34 PM

what do you mean that the comp doesn't give you the chktrust prompt? anyway, check your comp for viruses/spyware/malware with updated and good antivirus software, there may be some rogue program on your comp preventing installation. also, update your comp with windows update. Those updates may help.

1. The chktrust prompt is a warning box that appears whenever an update to the game is downloaded 100%. It's basically a security warning that you have to accept before the downloaded update is applied to the executable file and the strings file.
2. My computer has no viruses. I've double-checked.
3. My computer has the latest Windows XP SP3 updates.
The state of my 5 year old machine is the same right now as it was before I had the issue, which is why I'm stumped. If there had been a considerable alteration in my hardware or software, I could start with that.

Ask one of your friend to send you 1.08 executable and strings.dll.

Or better yet, use version changer.

Unfortunately, I haven't used Xfire for a really long time so I don't have friends to send me the files. I'll try the version changer, although it wouldn't work for Halo PC (it just told me that the strings were missing.) I'll give it another shot though.
Thanks for the replies.

Download the 1.08 update from another comp, then put it in a thumbdrive or other storage device, then run it from there. Hope this helps........ Oh, and check the version of the Halo CE/PC executables, maybe they have already benn updated to 1.08 without you knowing (the chktrust prompt may not appear, but it may have already changed the versions of the executables) Edited by sargejohnson on Sep 13, 2009 at 08:14 AM
