Where would I find the Checkpoint and Loading message that tells it what string entry to use?

its in "ui\hud\default.hud_globals" at the very bottom of the list.
and you can even make a sound play when a checkpoint saves. :D |

The checkpoint and BSP loading strings are in your hud_item_messages string list.
