The new engineer looks way different than the older H1 concept. If only it was a brighter screenshot.
Also, they only appear in Firefight, and they dont shoot or anything. They get shot at, they have alot of shields, and once they die, they explode and lowers shields of surrounding units.

You are incorrect. They are basically either shield healers or suicide-bombs. The armor on them is their power harness which the Brutes forced them to put on.

Also I think they are also in campaign. Aren't they? I remember hearing that they were in the campaign from somewhere.

You're both wrong. They don't wear a power harness or anything like that. Any Covenant infantry within close proximity to an engineer will gain an overshield. That's it. If you've got two, both will have shields.

k From the article Quote: The Engineer's role in Halo 3: ODST is a bit different. We have yet to actually play through the campaign of Halo 3: ODST, so how often you'll run into them in that storyline is still unknown. However, we have come up against these foes in the new co-operative Firefight mode. They don't pose any specific threat themselves, but it is still best to kill them off as soon as humanly possible. Any Covenant unit in the near vicinity of an Engineer is given an overshield. Two Engineers can even shield each other. With two of those in the air, you might find a group of Brutes or flying Drones becomes much more than a simple fight. /win

Err no, Engineers, according to 360 magazine, are either used as bombs or shield restorers (moving regenarators). The crap they are wearing is what I was referring to.

Actually I did hear that they can be used as bombs. However there main use is that of shield generators they give all enemy units within there proximity an overshield and restore shields over time. If there are 2 of them they give each other overshields and repair each others shields.
