anyone know of a tutorial of creatin vehicle permutations cause i cant find one an seach aint helping, im trying to save vehicle slots by haveing vehicles that share animations an collionsion models use the same tag, but are all merged into one gbx

So you want to have many vehicles in one model? Impossible, or so I think. Script more vehicles. You can't have multiple vehicles in one model tag, even if they have the same colision and model_animations tags. I think what he's refering to (in example) is coldsnaps nice little feature with the amazing flyable ghosts, or the tracked warthog's multiple seats coupled with the pelicans collision geometry. Basically, what was done was someone attached certain files such as collision geometry or w/e to certain vehicles and tweaked them so that most of it seemed correct. Like what I did when i made a hunter into a hunter/flood carrier form that flung out mini hunters when it died. Its only a little complicated when this is done to vehicles.

For example, when you blow the windshield on a hog, it switches permutation to another one.

Then again... if you rig the wrong permutation(say a "dead" wraith) to a (say a warthog) that just got blown up... youd obviously notice something horribly wrong... lol ^_^
... I just realized something... If you are trying to save vehicle slots via vehicle permutations (say rocket hog and chaingun hog); as long as the permutations are identicle or extremely close (like chaingun hog and tracked hog) it should work fine as long as you dont mind that it wont always be the same vehicle respawning in the same pace everytime. This will make for interesting gamepay if you have every vehicle acting on their permutations. (scorpion = heavy scorpion, ghost = fuelrod ghost, banshee = mosquito, warthog = mongoose, etc.) Edited by Switchblade on Jul 18, 2009 at 04:45 PM

You are right... what may end up happening if you do what i suggested last is that what will spawn in multiplayer may in fact be somewhat functional hybrids. (ie - the ghost may end up fireing plasma shots and fuelrods... or neither) The fact of the matter is... if you plan to mix vehicle permutations to save space; youll need to write a script to make sure that the vehicle permutations do not take effect or spawn in the same place at the same time.

Why would you need to script certain vehicle permutations? Every vehicle with permutations shares the one weapon defined in the vehicle tag. If you put a machine gun, then any vehicle using that perm, script or not, will use the machine gun. And only one permutation exists at a time. I don't see the purpose of that sort of script.

er the vehicles im working with dont have any weapons, so im not woried about that, or the vehicles permentations being random, im just trying to figure out how to get permutations to work as i never have done it before. just wana play around with it

Export the multiple .jms files into the same models folder. When you compile, tool will put them as permutations in the same gbxmodel.
