Author Topic: Loading custom tags in Sapien=EPIC FAIL (10 messages, Page 1 of 1)

john adams once commented that God cursed him with congress, instead of things such as plagues, famine, and natural disasters. well y r we jammed with confusing and cryptic programs like sapien and tool?

after spending a week figuring out y it wouldnt load a scenario file that most definitely was a
scenario file (and sorting things out with tool), i have got my test scenario up in sapien. only
problem is, it wont load any custom vehicle or weapon. for all said custom items, i extracted
them directly with HEK+, left them in there original folders, and then just opened the *.vehicle or *.weapon file in sapien.

but then out of the blue a window pops up saying all hell has broke loose and that tag(s) couldnt be loaded correctly and that i should ocntact my nearest bungie representative. what gives?

____and im aware of the fact that sapien and tool require time and skill to work with, and that there r a bunch of tutorials and mods to the programs. im jsut tryign to mkae a point here, cuz the one topic that seems to continuously circulate in these forums is sapien problems

Why make another then?

As for fixing the problem, when you extracted the tags, did you only extract the vehicles / weapons, or did you extract everything? Effects, particles, etc..

Sapien will also tell you what tags are missing, depending on the type you can figure out where they are in the tag. Using Guerilla search for Red Text in the you're using.

yes, i extracted the entire tag folder, ie i extracted the *mapname*\vehicles\epelican folder, not jsut the epelican.vehicle file. i did this for all the custom stuff.

and i was wondering what that red text in guerilla did. i suspected it had something to do with an error or advisory.

and i wish i couldve found the information i needed instead of making a new thread, but theres so much scattered about. the mass compiling of all things sapien, guerilla, and tool should be undertaken and combined into one all purpose all help tutorial. said project should be a collaborative effort, and done by people who have lots of experince with the programs. if that were done, there wouldnt be a need for these kinds of threads. just a thought.

Yup. Don't just extract that folder. Extract everything. The camera folder, characters folder, etc. Everything. Even if it seems superfluous, extract it anyway.

all ready then. i take it u mean to extract the whole map folder instead of individual folders yes? or just individually select the main folders (camera, weapons, effects, etc)

and about the red text thing, i dled the AA wraith tags from this site, and checked them out under guerilla. i successfully removed all red text tags, and was able to load it up in sapiens hierarchy view, but when i go to place the wraith, sapien locks up for a little and then closes unexpectedly, no error message (as usual). what happened?

Another Sapien program will make no difference. For the AA Wraith, you need to use the reg wraith physics

k, thnx

speaking of physics, i cant compile or use any of my physics files. i cant build a physics file with tool, or build a model. debug is of no help, and troubleshootign hasnt solved my problem either. im making an aircraft, and i got a good tutorial for it, and even did everything he said. but it still isnt working.

TheGhost, in his custom turret tutorial series, said he didnt have ot make a new physics scene since he built his turret using the 'sealed world rules'. i tried doing that, to no avail, then tried making physics by making several blocks and putting them together to form the basic shape of my model (without touching), and that didnt work either.

what am i doing wrong (nto to be off topic, or anyhting)?

just trying to make a point here. At least sapien and tool BOTHER to tell you what's wrong with the map you are making in the form of something called debug.txt.

Some programs don't even TELL A CRAP about what is wrong with either them or your actions. All they do is throw a tantrum and close on you.

Be grateful that they are better than certain programs out there.

Oh, and sorry if i offended you with this.
