How Exactly do you open .map's in sapian?

I know this sounds nooby, but i can only open .scenario files with sapian (or however you spell it)

You don't open .maps in sapien. They are compiled scenario files. Rip them with HEK+ to mod the map.

You have to recompile it though.

sop rip them with hek plus, then re compile them to make them normal with the mods kept?

you rip them with HEK+, edit them, then compile them with tool.

Before you save changes, save the scenario as something else, so that you don't overwrite your original map.
