Eh, physics don't work like that buddy, an object is in motion cannot move sideways without moving its axel or wings. A tilt of the wings will cause it to turn. Unless the pelican had anti gravity ejectors on the side, and with the proper syncing, the vehicle could standby the engine, and fuel out take, and switch to the gravity. If done, it still wouldn't look very graceful.
