I have a command list set up where the AI is supposed to shoot at a point for 5 time units (which I assume are seconds), but when I tell my character to execute the command it doesnt shoot or even point it's weapon. other commands work, it obeys the look command and points it's weapon at the point, it just doesnt like the shoot command. dumb pacifist ai. what is going on here?

I have this problem as well. However, I managed to do a workaround, which works. Put an enemy biped where the player can't see it, but the AI can. They'll begin shooting at it. That's what I did for project flee and alpha.

Did you put a "targeting enable" command before the "shoot" command? They don't shoot unless targeting is enabled. You can then put a "targeting disable" command after the "shoot" command if you want them not to target enemies randomly.

well the target point is like ridiculously far away, so the work around is out, and I am making a cutscene where a guy gets sniped. so my hands are sortof tied. and I tried the targeting enable deal and that didnt work. the only thing I can think of is maybe the target point is too far away?

It could be, depending on the actor variant tag's firing distance. I'm not sure if that would stop him from shooting though. Try moving the target point a lot closer to where he would be when he shoots but still pointing in the direction he needs to shoot. If that doesn't work, then it's not the distance.

its wierd. the go to(and face) commands, and the shoot commands dont work, but the move in direction, look and teleport commands do.

this is fustrating.
does anyone know how to spawn a bullet using an effect tag? that that would simplify everything

You're using a cutscene where this person gets sniped? Here's what I did. Let the camera watch the people that get sniped. Then, I use ai_kill, and play the sniping sound. This doesn't show the contrail of the Halo sniper rifle, but I used it for Kingfish's modern sniper rifle, so it worked for me.

Create an effect with a location, and one event. In Parts, click Add and load the sniper projectile. Save the .effect somewhere.
Then, (now this is kind of guess work) you would have to create a cutscene flag somewhere, point it correctly in the direction (this would take a while) and use the command effect_new.
