hey all
I am trying my hand on forerunner for my sp map
and i have tried to make those towers wich you see often on forerunner stuctures
i alway's started on the top first then build my way down
but i cant seem to get te results i want

So i was wondering how do you other modelling people start out with modeling forerunner
like where do you start ect

I start... with a plane =P

well i just start making the walls, extrude some parts for the forerunner like architecture, make the angles bout 45 degrees and in the middle start forming it symmetric to make a door, yes i don't make a door and a wall but a wall that forms a door xD

well hard to explain, but i just start, from the front, through how you would play it in halo, and end at the top lol, but then again, i almost always start with an extruding entrance, if you would make a tower that is going straight, then i would start with the front wall, extrude stuff, make corners and yes finish the roof and then form a door

meh it just depends on what form i have in mind =P but definitly start from the bottem

oh and, always make a rough model of what it should become, so you can make it the proportions you want, sorta like work your way up from a collision model style =P

I usually come up with my own ideas, by just making a vertex and working on it from there.
Grab a penicl and some paper, and draw out some designs and layouts. To be honest, sketching them out is easier then you think when it comes to forerunner.

But 2D is... insufficient, to say the least, when designing multi-leveled layouts.
But I also agree, sketching is nice. ^_^

This.

Angles to use. 5, 15, 30, 45, and 90. Draw it out first. Make sure if you make an erection or something, the tip doesn't chamfer, it tapers.

This is quoted from Rossman on Modacity.

"Forerunner structures taper towards the edge. They're not boxes, they're not just chamfered at the edges, they're tapered. If you open up any of the Halo beamtowers, or any other major Halo structure with a finlike piece, it gets narrower as it comes towards the edge and then it chamfers."

5 and 15 and regularly good for smaller structures.

You guys draw stuff out? *Goes cries*

Just model what you feel and when you feel. That's what I do, and it seems to work. :)
