I am importing the bitmap into the displacement bar (I have done all the box steps), and when I finally add the strength (2,500) it doesn't do anything! Help!

You can, but you will wind up with a box map that no one will play.

not to mention easiest, all you have to do is draw a shape then displace it into a plane, no modeling needed

Like I said earlier. You will wind up with a box map. Find a decent modeling tutorial.
