OK so i made a map with proper uvw's, portals, and made sure there was nothing wrong with the map. But when I try to convert the .ass file into a .scenario file using h2tool, the file is not created and I get this weird error.  Can anyone help me out? Thx.

im very sorry i really have no idea i never came any higher than Definition 2 lol anyway i have that error sometimes to and i really dont know what it is.
the way i try to prevent is is to work in small steps, and test every time dont make to big steps other wise you dont know what you did wrong i can only give you this.

Your not doing some thing that is required for the map to be made, in this case I'm guess you never linked your BSP to the b_levelroot.

Portals are used by Halo 2 to create separate zones within a single level. This allows the game engine to be more efficient in rendering assets as well as allowing unique background sounds and sound environments in different areas.
Once a level reaches a certain size, it will require portals due to the amount of data included in the levels tag files. Portal planes are placed in your 3D editor and must have the +portal material applied to the faces to be exported properly.

The gate(portal) has to cross your map +portal in material editor

ok so i fixed the error with the portals. :D but now the definition is #1 instead of #4. what does this mean?

Definition 0 is with the linkup with teh LEvelroot and the LEvel
Definition 1 could be the sky do you have a sky?

yes i have a +sky material, but it is applied to only 1 polygon at the very top of the map. does it have to actually be applied to a box shape to work?

Post pics of the map, this will really help in seeing what's up. Also your positive the bsp is linked properly and that the root and sky mat are named properly?

Here's the outside of the level, portals, b_levelroot, and map are shown. All you see right now is outside of the map.  Here is proof of linkage to b_levelroot. Wait a Second, did you add any Materials? when i look at it it all looks ''Brown'' like nothing got added maybe thats the error you have now try to add some Materials and if you allready had those im sry then
(add it to all Faces)

yes, there are materials applied to all faces. its just hard to see them b/c of crappy in-max lighting

Damn,
I had the same error today And i really dont know what is wrong But my map looked totally different then yours Maybe someone could ask bungie to tell us what the problem is
I allready tryed vut i couldnt find the link to a help support for the halo map editor
Anyway Nice map i really like th idea.
