Posted: Feb 24, 2009 10:12 AM    Msg. 1 of 25
Well, im soon releasing my BETA map, ofcource, with AI xd

Yet i dont want everybody to get my Tags (want to keep it for myself for a while)

I know you can protect you're files... but how?

I've always kept linux style, wich means just publish everything, but this time im making an exeption.

Anyone help?

Thanks in advance!

using hek+ protector or halo map protector. use both to completly protect the tags (you cant unprotect them after it)

if you delete the scenario or change or corrupt a tag used by the map and you want to change it in some way, an unprotected copy would come in handy.

It has a protector. That's the only public map protector released.

I lied. Even though that tool looks cool and is very user friendly I would suggest you use the HEK+ map protector. I use it because I usually restore my computer every year so half the time I lose my maps. So if I ever wanted to get my tags back I can use the HEK+ extractor. What I mean is you can make a password for your map. When you want to unlock your map just enter it. You can also choose not to have a password.

On a side note I always wondered. Can I join a server that has a locked version of one of my maps if mine is unlocked? As in I use an unlocked version on a server that is using my released locked version.

You can't use an unprotected map to play with other users who have the protected version.

HEK+ has the best map protector. If you used the other one, you would normally forget to add around the name, allowing people to extract it. That means that all your tags CAN be extracted, due to a simple mistake. The preferred way of protection is to use HEK+. Start up HEK+, go to tools, and go to map protector. The rest is self explanatory.

If its the protector where you can rename your tags, people can still rip your tags....

It moves the tags, renames them, shuffles them in a random order...

Will be fine :)

You didn't even give credits to the creator of these tags. And I won't put you into the credits, if I used them, because you didn't make them.

If you protect your map with hek+ then with the other protector, the one where you put in the name, then you can still extract all the tags, they just all have the same name and go strait into the main tags folder. So...basicly one map protector allows you to extract stuff that was supposed to be protected with the other. Stupid.

Actually, if you add around what you name it, HEK+ won't be able to extract. That's why it can't rip files.

I would put the makers in credit, but a friend gave me the tags, so i dont know who made them exactly.
