I know this has nothing to do with Halo CE, but i didn't know where else to go. The problem is, I recently aquired an xbox live 3 month membership. But with my router and its strict NAT typ, all i can do is basic matchmaking, and not join partys, or even private chat. I have tried opening ports but nothing seems to work.

Any help would be appreciated.

If you have a Linksys Router, just go to your router's settings.

Default URL is http://192.168.1.1/

Standard Username/Password are "admin" "admin", without quotes.

Once signed in, go to the Security tab, and under Firewall, make sure that none of the boxes are checked for web filters.

Then, go to the Administration tab, and check the box to enable UPnP.

Then, just save the settings, and your NAT type should be Open.

Uh, it means your security, on the router, is strict, it is caused by firewalls on the main computer (if your parents have parental security setting for the internet for example).

You wont be able to join games or parties, but I know a way to trick it, use a guinea pig (another player), that has a good connection, and can play with that friend you want too, join that game, after they are in it, and you can play.

It all depends on who is the connection host, a lot of times, you can play with a person, and wont hear them ingame, or they will be kicked ingame randomly.

Oh, and an open NAT will risk viruses on your internet connection, mine is a strict NAT, I have that issue with only a few select friends.

Its something that you will want to deal with, the upside is that you get games with better internet connections, most of the time.

(I have a Belkin Wireless G router, but a wired connection.)

Why don't you go to Bungie.net? That would have been the first thing I would have done. Or just google it.

Unplug your 360 from your router and plug it directly into the wall, this should clear up your problem.

I have moderate on the Router, absolutely /no/ firewall or anti-virus, or anti-spyware on my computer, and I have no issues. Strict isn't necessary, but yes; having an open NAT will risk it. Changing it one day, my computer flipped out this morning; I switched it back immediately...

At least change it to Moderate at the least; Strict will limit your gameplay drastically for Halo 3, to the ability to be unable to party up in any way. But never set it to Open.

Another tip; don't bother playing with a wireless connection. The fastest a wireless connection in the US (home-based) can get, is 1.5 mbps; whether your router's speed exceeds that or not doesn't matter. I have 16 mbps internet speed right now, and the wireless is drastically slow in comparison... /Always/ stick to a land-line for gaming.
